The Bali Provincial Government has confirmed that the planned mass transportation system from I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport to Canggu will no longer use the MRT, but will instead utilize the Autonomous Rail Rapid Transit (ART) system, or autonomous electric tram. This project will be directly funded by PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), with an investment of approximately IDR 2.2 trillion.

According to Bali Governor Wayan Koster, the change in scheme was the result of discussions with PT KAI. This environmentally friendly transportation project has been designed since 2020 as a more efficient and faster alternative to improve connectivity to Bali's densely populated tourist areas.

Banyuwangi was spotlighted as a model for sustainable marine tourism at the ASEAN-ID Blue forum on July 17 and 18, 2026, sharing its best practices with delegates from ASEAN, the East Asia Summit, and the Pacific Islands Forum. The forum, jointly initiated by Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, and New Zealand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, chose Banyuwangi based on its success in combining marine resource management with community empowerment, as highlighted by Senior Economic Diplomacy Advisor Zelda Wulan Kartika.

Delegates visited Kampung Nelayan Merah Putih and Bangsring Underwater to witness the regency's community-driven approach to coastal conservation and marine tourism firsthand. Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani welcomed the recognition, reaffirming the regency's commitment to developing its rich coastline through sustainability, local empowerment, and blue economy principles.

Emerging from the crystal-clear waters of the Flores Sea, the Komodo Islands continue to stand as one of the world's most extraordinary natural destinations. This UNESCO World Heritage-listed national park is home to pink-sand beaches, savannah landscapes, vibrant coral reefs teeming with manta rays, and the last remaining wild population of Komodo dragons on Earth.

The year 2026 marks the park's 45th anniversary, with Indonesia rolling out new conservation initiatives and visitor management strategies aimed at protecting both its iconic reptiles and fragile marine ecosystems. Getting there has also become more convenient, with direct flights from Singapore and Kuala Lumpur now serving the gateway town of Labuan Bajo. Strict entry permits and ranger-guided tours ensure that tourism dollars directly benefit local communities and habitat preservation efforts.

Visitors can explore the islands by day boat, unwind at eco-lodges on surrounding islands, or sail through secluded bays aboard traditional phinisi wood

At the heart of Indonesia's appeal is its extraordinary spice legacy and the stunning variety of food traditions found across the archipelago, from the westernmost tip of Sabang to the eastern reaches of Merauke. Indonesian cuisine has once again earned international recognition. TasteAtlas has ranked Sate Padang second on its Best Meat Dishes in Asia list, placing it just behind Beyti Kebab from Türkiye.

Beyond Sate Padang, several other Indonesian dishes also made the cut, including nasi rendang, nasi gandul, dendeng balado, selat Solo, and semur daging. All earning spots among Asia's finest meat dishes.

Sate Padang is known for its tender cuts of beef grilled over charcoal and generously topped with a thick, spiced curry sauce made from turmeric, galangal, lemongrass, coriander, and cumin.

The bold combination of savory, spicy, and aromatic flavors has cemented Sate Padang as one of Indonesia's most celebrated dishes on the world culinary stage.

Indonesia ranks as the world’s friendliest country in 2026, according to InterNations’ latest Expat Insider survey.

Indonesia takes the top position for Local Friendliness, while also ranking 4th in both Culture & Welcome and Finding Friends. These results contribute to an overall 4th-place finish in the Ease of Settling In Index, placing the country among the world’s easiest destinations for newcomers to integrate into daily life.

The ranking is based on the Ease of Settling In Index, which measures three aspects of expat life: Local Friendliness, Culture & Welcome, and Finding Friends.

One factor frequently associated with Indonesia’s social environment is gotong royong, a long-standing tradition of mutual cooperation that encourages communities to work together for shared goals. Across both rural villages and major cities, collective activities, neighbourhood initiatives, and cultural celebrations remain a visible part of everyday life, helping shape interactions between residents and newcomers alike.
