The very first of its species caught on fly tackle, I believe.
Borneo Red Gourami aka Kaloi, one of the most sought after species in this region for sport fishers due to its elusiveness and yet we found loads of them in this river and willingly take flies.
Landing it is a totally different issue though, broken leaders, hooks and fly lines (!)
These brutes are powerful despite their funky look.
This 13lbs whopper was caught on Loop Cross SW 8wt and Loop Q reel using a black popper fly by our very own Dayak guide (also the very first Dayak fly guide in Borneo).

Sometimes you need to trigger...this beast just went straight without any turns. I call it..4x4 of the flats.
