A Brief History of the Tirta Gangga Water Palace

Tirta Gangga comes from the word, the word tirta means holy water, while gangga itself is the name of a river in India whose water is purified. So Tirta Gangga means holy water from the Ganges River. This is a form of respect given to the Hindu community throughout the world in general.

The process of building this water palace began in 1946 by order of the King of Karangasem at that time. Its main purpose is as a place of recreation and stopover for the royal family and royal guests who come to Bali. Therefore various arrangements are made as attractive and as beautiful as possible to look at.

This place is truly a cultural heritage of ancient Bali with its distinctive feature in the form of a water palace, the result of a combination of Chinese and Balinese style architecture. Until finally in 1963 there was a natural disaster in the form of the eruption of Mount Agung which damaged almost the entire Tirta Gangga area.
