Danau Kelimutu is famous for its three volcanic crater lakes, located on the summit of Mount Kelimutu in Flores Island, Indonesia.
These crater lakes are:
1. Tiwu Ata Mbupu, Lake of the Old People Traditionally believed to be the resting place of the souls of elders and wise people.
2. Tiwu Nuwa Muri Koo Fai, Lake of Young Men and Maidens
Believed to receive the souls of young people.
3. Tiwu Ata Polo, Lake of Evil Spirits
Traditionally associated with souls who committed evil deeds during life.
