One of the well-preserved cultural heritage sites in Manggarai is Compang Todo. Compang Todo is located in Todo Village, West Satar Mese District, Central Manggarai Regency.
In this traditional village, cultural values and customs are still strongly preserved. Upon entering the Compang Todo area, visitors are welcomed by the beautiful landscape of neatly arranged traditional Manggarai houses, surrounded by breathtaking natural scenery. Before registration, guests are provided with a traditional songke sarong, a scarf, and a Manggarai hat to wear during their visit to Compang Todo.

After registration, visitors are usually accompanied by a local guide who escorts them to the main traditional house for an opening ceremony. This is a common tradition and part of the beliefs of the Manggarai people when welcoming guests into their homes. The first ritual performed is called โ€œPaโ€™u Wae Luโ€™u,โ€ which is led by the traditional elder of Compang Todo.

The Paโ€™u Wae Luโ€™u ceremony is performed as a final gesture of respect to all ancestors and family members who have passed away in Todo village. On another level, the ritual is believed to provide protection and blessings so that visitors will remain safe and free from misfortune during their stay in Compang Todo and throughout their travels in the land of Nuca Lale.

After the ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy the local traditional coffee while listening to stories and explanations about the history and culture of Todo, shared by the local guide.

Safety must be the top priority for all stakeholders before promoting and selling a tourist destination to visitors.
On May 24, 2026, at around 9:00 AM, an accident occurred at Cunca Wulang Waterfall. Two tourists from Austria visited the waterfall to enjoy its natural beauty after carefully planning their trip. Unfortunately, while crossing the river via a wooden bridge, they fell due to an accident on the bridge.

A few hours later, the victims were evacuated by ambulance and transported to Labuan Bajo for medical treatment.
This incident should become an important lesson and evaluation for all tourism stakeholders:

- Safety must always be the highest priority, and all facilities must be confirmed safe before being used by the public.
- All equipment and infrastructure at tourist destinations should be inspected and rechecked regularly.
Continuous monitoring and scheduled maintenance must be implemented consistently.
- Immediate evaluation and action are necessary whenever damage or risk is identified. If repairs are required, they must be carried out promptly, or the area should be temporarily closed until it is completely safe for visitors.

Tourism destinations should not only focus on attracting visitors, but also on ensuring the safety, security, and well-being of every tourist who visits.

A historical site that has been well preserved, reflecting how the Catholic faith first began and continued to grow until today.

The Old Rekas Church is one of the earliest churches established and built during the early development of Catholic life in West Manggarai. In 2025, Rekas Church celebrates its 100th anniversary โ€” a century of faith and civilization.
From its miniature details to its architectural design, the church has remained unchanged since it was first built, except for several renovations made to replace worn-out facilities.

Rekas Church is located in Rekas Village, Kempo, Mbeliling District, West Manggarai Regency. It is about a 45-minute drive from Labuan Bajo.
Many historical treasures and stories can be found inside this church, making it a fascinating place to explore and learn about.

If you are curious, come and visit this remarkable church yourself.
See you at the Rekas Church.

A new tourist attraction in Tado Tourism Village is the famous Lingko (a single stretch of communal rice fields) Waemata. This attraction is widely known as the Tado Spider Rice Field because of its stunning shape that resembles a spider web๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒพ๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ๐Ÿ•ธ๏ธ

With tourist interest increasing from year to year, the government together with the local community of Nampar Macing Village quickly responded by creating an access point where visitors can take photos and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Tado Rice Field directly from the rice field area.

For those who havenโ€™t had the chance to visit yet, make sure to set aside some time to capture unforgettable moments with the breathtaking views of the Tado Rice Field.

Agro-tourism activities took place when two tourists from Germany visited Tado Tourism Village. During their visit, the guests took the opportunity to learn traditional farming methods practiced by the local community. They participated directly in planting rice seeds in one of the farmersโ€™ rice fields. This became a unique and memorable experience for the visitors, as such traditional farming systems are rarely found in their home country.

On another occasion, the guests also learned how local villagers weave traditional mats, an important part of the communityโ€™s daily cultural activities.
Besides these experiences, there are actually many other tourism activities offered through the village tourism packages in Tado Tourism Village, including:
- Making traditional kitchen utensils and ornaments from clay
- Watching the traditional Caci dance performance
- Preparing and directly tasting traditional tea made from special local wood found in the village
- Crafting traditional lamps using natural materials instead of kerosene
- Trekking and nature exploration activities around the village

These activities provide visitors with authentic cultural and rural experiences while also supporting local community-based tourism.
