A vast landscape stretches over the ancestral village, surrounded by towering mountains cloaked in thick clouds. Nine traditional conical houses, crafted from black natural materials, stand firmly, each a testament to enduring design.

We spent time there capturing photographs and preserving the wonder in our memories. It is awe-inspiring to witness the genius of the older generation, who left behind creations that reflect remarkable human creativity and a profound philosophy of life—where people, the earth, and the Creator are deeply connected.

Wae Lomba is the gateway to a lush tropical forest—home to thousands of plant species and wildlife. It is also the starting point of a journey into the past, where one can experience the authentic lifestyle of the older generation of Manggarai, a way of life that still survives today.

I was there with a couple of adventurers from Singapore—urban dwellers escaping the city, seeking not just pleasure, but a deeper experience and a new perspective on life.

The trek begins at around 500 meters above sea level and climbs to 1,200 meters to reach the ancestral village of Wae Rebo. A narrow path of stone, clay, and limestone guides us upward, with seven resting points along the way.

Along the trail, the scent of dried and decaying tree trunks fills the air—a reminder that we are walking through a vast, ancient forest. At one of the stops, Nampe Bakok, we pause to take in a breathtaking view: thick clouds blanket the valleys below. The distant roar of waterfalls blends with the sounds of birds, monkeys, and other unseen creatures hidden deep within the jungle.

Upon arriving at the village gate, known as Pa’ang, a wide, open view reveals the old village—nine conical houses standing gracefully in a circular formation. It feels as though time has stood still.

We continue into the main house for a traditional welcome ceremony. Inside the dark, windowless interior, the clan leader leads a sacred ritual, chanting in an ancient language. His words are offered to the spirits of the ancestors and the guardians of the village—seeking their blessing, protection, and permission for us to enter and experience the heritage they have passed down through generations.

From plan to reality—today the journey begins.

Weeks of preparation finally brought us here, starting the day with a warm meet-up at the hotel before heading into the highlands of Manggarai.

Our first stop: a vast communal land in Lembor. A short hike led us to one of the most iconic cultural landscapes—Lodok, the spider web rice fields.
More than just a view, it tells a story of unity, tradition, and balance. From the Teno Tree at the center—symbolizing the father—to the stone representing the mother, every line reflects the philosophy of life of the Manggarai people.

Once used for dry farming, today these lands have transformed into lush rice paddies, blending tradition with adaptation.

The journey continued to Dintor, where modern life meets local roots. We wrapped up the morning with a delightful lunch at a local restaurant—simple, authentic, and full of flavor.

This is more than a tour.
It’s a story you walk through.

Mr. Raj returned—this time with his extended family from India. Back in 2023, he explored the wonders of Labuan Bajo with his wife and daughter, spending 3 days and 2 nights on a liveaboard. That journey sparked a deep love for the raw beauty of Komodo National Park.

Now, he’s back to share that same magic.

Together with his parents and sister, he spent three unforgettable days exploring the wild—stepping into the ancient territory of the legendary Komodo dragon. From scenic treks to breathtaking island views, every moment became a story worth telling.

Some places you visit once.
Others you return to, bringing the people you love.

Today we explored Loh Buaya on Rinca Island, the second largest island within Komodo National Park. The area is well-developed and managed by the forestry authority, offering a safe and immersive wildlife experience.

Our guests walked along the permanent elevated deck, where they spotted water buffaloes, wild deer, and long-tailed macaques roaming freely and feeding on the ground.

We were warmly welcomed by the park rangers, who guided us into the natural habitat of the Komodo dragon. Along the forest trail, we encountered an active male Komodo dragon on the hunt—an intense and unforgettable moment. The rangers stayed alert throughout, ensuring our guests’ safety while observing this incredible predator in the wild.

We wrapped up the trip with a visit to the mini museum, where we saw the skeletons of two Komodo dragons—believed to have been a pair.

An unforgettable day in the wild.

We just explored the fascinating Batu Cermin Cave, a stunning limestone cave rich in natural history. Guided by a professional naturalist, we ventured deep inside and were lucky to encounter one of the cave’s endemic species — the striking Yellow Pit Viper

This snake is one of the most sought-after sightings, especially by our guests from Taiwan, making the experience even more special.

After three hours of exploration, the mission was successfully completed!

Our reptile-enthusiast guests from Taiwan visited Rinca Village. During the visit, we experienced the daily life of the local coastal fishing community. The villagers were busy drying their catch—small fish locally known as semprea. Everyone we met was very friendly and welcoming.

We then walked toward a limestone cave, crossing a rugged hill led by a local guide. Our goal was to see the endemic snake known as the Flores Python (Sanca Flores). The snake is usually found inside the cave, hunting bats that hang from the ceiling. Unfortunately, we were not lucky enough to spot one.

However, our guests were still very happy to see hundreds of bats inside the cave and to encounter three Komodo dragons hunting behind the village of Rinca.

Rinca is not only about seeing wildlife, but also about connecting with nature and the warm local community that lives alongside these extraordinary creatures. It was a day full of adventure, discovery, and beautiful memories for our guests from Taiwan.

Roaring of an aircraft above the small town of Labuan Bajo awakens the quiet morning before it gently touches the runway of Komodo International Airport.

I was there, waiting for a group of herpetologists from Taiwan who had just arrived to explore the incredible diversity of reptiles that have existed for millions of years.

Shawl give each of guest the symbol of a warm-hearted welcome, I greeted them at the arrival hall. These weaving things the representative of happines, respect and anthusiasm.

They will spend 5 Days 4 Nights in Labuan Bajo — planning night herping to find endemic snakes, island hopping to witness the Komodo dragons in their natural habitat, and exploring human evolution at Liang Bua Cave, where archaeologists discovered the skeleton of Homo floresiensis.

Your journey starts with local wisdom.
