1. Penanda posisi di permukaan
SMB memberi tahu kapal atau tim di atas bahwa ada penyelam di bawah. Ini mencegah kecelakaan seperti tertabrak perahu.

2. Safety saat naik (ascent)
Saat naik ke permukaan, diver bisa kirim SMB dulu supaya posisi mereka jelas terlihat, terutama kalau arus kuat dan mereka terbawa jauh dari titik awal.

3. Drift diving (ikut arus)
Dalam penyelaman yang mengikuti arus, posisi diver bisa berubah terus. SMB membantu boat tetap melacak mereka.

4. Emergency / kondisi darurat
Kalau ada masalah (misalnya kehabisan udara atau tersesat), SMB bisa jadi sinyal minta bantuan.

5. Safety stop lebih aman
Saat berhenti di kedalaman tertentu (biasanya 3–5 meter), SMB jadi referensi visual dan membantu tetap di posisi.
