*Above the Clouds: Wae Rebo Village ☁️🏔️*

There are places that feel like another world.
Wae Rebo is one of them.

Hidden 1,100 meters above sea level in the mountains of Flores, NTT, lies a village that time forgot. No signal. No cars. Just 7 traditional cone-shaped houses called *Mbaru Niang*, mist, and the sound of wind.

To get here, we trekked 3 hours through jungle, rivers, and bridges from Denge Village. Tired? Yes. Worth it? 1000% yes.

Wae Rebo is home to the Manggarai people. They still live simply, farm their land, and drink organic coffee grown right here. At night, we slept together on the wooden floor of an Mbaru Niang. 20 people, 1 house, 0 distractions.

The morning was pure magic. The village floated above the clouds. No internet. But the best connection I’ve ever felt.

Wae Rebo isn’t just a destination.
It’s a reminder to slow down.

HOW TO GET THERE
1. Fly to Labuan Bajo
2. 4 hour drive to Denge Village
3. 3-4 hour trek through the jungle
You must go with a local guide.

WHAT TO DO
✓ Sleep in a traditional Mbaru Niang house
✓ Drink organic Wae Rebo coffee
✓ Watch sunrise above the clouds
✓ Learn about Manggarai culture
✓ Disconnect from the world

IMPORTANT TIPS
🧥 Bring a thick jacket - it’s 12-18°C
🥾 Wear trekking shoes
💰 Bring cash - no ATM
📵 No signal = digital detox
🌤️ Best time: April - October

Whould you stay here for 1 night?👇

Orong Bukal, Sekotong - Lombok’s Hidden Paradise* 💙

Tucked away on the southwest coast of Lombok, *Orong Bukal in Sekotong* is one of those places that feels like a secret. No crowds. No filters needed. Just turquoise water, soft white sand, and hills that look straight out of a painting.

✓Where is Orong Bukal?
Orong Bukal is located in Sekotong, West Lombok, about 1.5 - 2 hours drive from Mataram or Senggigi.

Sembalun creater rim

If Sembalun Savana is Lombok’s golden carpet, then *Sembalun Crater Rim* is the VIP balcony to see the whole show.

This is where you camp _above_ the clouds with Mount Rinjani towering next to you.

What is Sembalun Crater Rim?
It’s the first major campsite on the *Sembalun Trail* to Mount Rinjani 3,726m.
*Elevation: 2,639m / 8,661 ft*
From here you get a direct, jaw-dropping view into the *Segara Anak Crater Lake* and across the entire crater. No trees blocking. Just you and a 50km wide caldera.

It takes 7-8 hours of hiking from Sembalun Village to reach it. But trust me, the view is worth every step.

Why Everyone Treks Here
1. The Sunrise
Wake up at 3 AM and hike 2 hours to the summit. Watch the sun rise over the crater while you’re literally above the clouds. It’s spiritual.

2. Crater View 24/7
At camp, you can sit all day watching the weather change over the lake. Morning = blue. Afternoon = misty. Sunset = pink and gold.

3. The Stars
Zero light pollution. The Milky Way is so clear it feels like you can touch it. At night it’s freezing, but the sky makes up for it.

4. That "On Top of the World" Feeling
You’re higher than most clouds in Lombok. Phone signal? Gone. Noise? Gone. Just wind, stars, and Rinjani.

Sembalun Savana: Lombok’s Golden “New Zealand of lombok
If you think you need to fly to New Zealand for endless golden grasslands and volcano views, think again. It’s all in Lombok.

Welcome to *Sembalun Savana*.

✓Where is it?
Sembalun Savana is located in East Lombok, at the foot of *Mount Rinjani 3,726m*. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Mataram.
This wide open grassland is part of the Rinjani trekking route, specifically along the Sembalun trail to the crater rim.

✓Why Everyone’s Obsessed With It
*1. The Landscape*
Imagine rolling hills covered in grass that turns bright green in rainy season and golden in dry season. No trees. No buildings. Just you, the wind, and Rinjani towering in the background. It’s dramatic, peaceful, and feels unreal.

*2. Easy Access + Epic Views*
You don’t have to be a climber to enjoy it. You can drive to the entrance of the savana and walk 10 minutes for the same view that trekkers see after 4 hours of hiking. Perfect for photos, picnics, and pre-wedding shoots.

*3. The Sky*
Because there’s zero light pollution, the sky here is massive. Sunrise and sunset turn the grass orange and pink. At night, it’s a full Milky Way.

✓Best Time to Visit
- July - September: Golden season. The grass is dry, tall, and glows in the sun. This is the most iconic look.
- December - February: Green season. Lush, fresh, and cooler. Rinjani is often covered in clouds.

Go between *7:00 - 9:00 AM*. The light is soft, the wind isn’t too strong, and you’ll avoid the midday heat.

✓Tips Before You Go
1 Bring protection: Hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. There’s zero shade.
2 Wear flowy clothes: The wind makes every photo look cinematic.
3 Stay hydrated: Bring lots of water.
4 Cost: Free if you’re just visiting. If you trek Rinjani from here, SIMAKSI fee is 150,000 IDR.
5 Combine it: Pair Sembalun Savana with *Desa Sembalun* for strawberry farms and *Bukit Pergasingan* for another Rinjani viewpoint.

✓Final Thought
Sembalun Savana isn’t just a spot. It’s a reset.
No signal. No noise. Just grass, sky, and one of Indonesia’s most active volcanoes watching over you.

*Where the Sky Turns Black with Wings: Kalong Island 🦇🌅*

Day 1 in Komodo ends like this.

No WiFi. No music. Just silence...
Until the sun starts to set.

Welcome to *Kalong Island*, also known as "Bat Island".
As the sky turns orange, thousands of giant flying foxes wake up. Then millions.

They fly out from the mangrove forest in waves, heading to Flores Island to find food. The whole sky goes dark with wings for about 20 minutes. It’s wild, loud, and absolutely breathtaking.

We anchor our Phinisi right in front of the island. Everyone goes to the sundeck. Phones down. We just watch.
The sound of the ocean + the sound of a million wings = the best soundtrack ever.

✓Good to know:
1. *When*: Every day at sunset, around 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
2. *What we do*: Enjoy it from the boat. We don’t go to the island to protect their habitat.
3. *After*: BBQ dinner on deck under the stars ✨

Kalong isn’t in most brochures, but it’s the moment most of our guests remember the most.
Raw nature. No filter needed.

Have you ever seen a sky full of bats?

The Most Iconic View in Indonesia: Pulau Padar 🏝️*

If you only go to one place in Komodo National Park, make it this one.

*Pulau Padar* is famous for one reason: the view.
From the top, you’ll see 3 bays with 3 different colored beaches - white, black, and pink - all in one frame. It looks unreal.

✓What to know before you go:
1. The Hike: 30-45 minutes uphill. About 800 steps. It’s steep but short. Go slow, take breaks.
2. Best Time: Sunrise. 5:30 AM. The light hits the hills and turns the water turquoise. Plus, it’s cooler.
3. What to Bring: Hiking sandals, 1L of water, hat, and your camera. There’s zero shade at the top.
4. No Komodos here - Don’t worry. Padar is for the views, not the dragons. You’ll see them on Komodo or Rinca Island.

Standing on that ridge feels like you’re on the cover of a travel magazine. The wind, the silence, the 360° ocean... it hits different.

This is stop #1 on our *4D3N Komodo Open Trip*. We anchor early so you can catch the sunrise before the crowds.

Would you climb 800 steps for this view?
