ORIGINS AND CUSTOMS OF TRIBES IN WEST NUSA TENGGARA
The Sasak tribe is an ethnic group that occupies Lombok Island, West Nusa Tenggara, with a population of 3 million people. Of this number, 2.5 million still survive in their ancestral lands, while the other 500 thousand are scattered throughout Indonesia.

Although some Sasak groups still live their traditional lives with pride, others have begun to embrace modernity. Sade Village is one of Lombok's hidden gems, home to around 700 native Sasak residents. This village is often a destination for tourists who want to experience and witness the authentic life of the Sasak tribe.

ORIGINS OF THE SASAK TRIBE

It is said that the Sasak tribe has inhabited Lombok Island since 4000 years BC. There are those who believe that they are the result of a combination of native Lombok residents and Javanese immigrants from the Ancient Mataram Kingdom. The name "Sasak" itself has a deep meaning and was first found in the Pujungan Inscription in Tabanan, Bali, which dates from the 11th century. Some experts argue that "Sasak" comes from the word sak-sak which means "canoe".

In the Book of Negara Kertagama, Sasak and Lombok are referred to with great glory as "Lombok Mirah Sasak Adi". If translated, Lombok means "straight or honest", Mirah means "jewel", Sasak means "reality", and Adi means "good or main". This meaning implies that "Honesty Is the Jewel of Good Reality".

LANGUAGE AND CUSTOMS OF THE SASAK TRIBE

Sasak language is an identity that is closely attached to this tribe. This language is used daily by the Sasak people, especially in rural areas. For education, office matters and communication between tribes, they use Indonesian. Like Javanese, Sasak also has different levels, from the most formal to the most relaxed, depending on who they are speaking to.

The Sasak tribe's customs are very unique and full of thrilling traditional nuances. One of the most famous traditions is merari or elopement. In this tradition, a man will "kidnap" the woman he wants to marry and leave her at a relative's house. The next day, the man, accompanied by four people, would inform the woman's family about the "kidnapping" through a process called Nyelabar.

During Nyelabar, the man must not reveal where the woman is hidden. If this process goes smoothly without any commotion, the two families will hold a deliberation or Masejatik at the woman's family home to discuss the marriage. This wedding is usually carried out with a traditional ceremony that is full of meaning and religion.

Through a long journey of history and rich traditions, the Sasak tribe continues to maintain their identity and culture, even in the midst of increasingly strong modernization. They are a reflection of the tenacity, pride and beauty that are closely intertwined with the land of Lombok.

The blue fire phenomenon is one of the natural wonders that only Indonesia has, where the crater of Mount Ijen shows blue fire activity around the crater in the early hours of the morning. Blue fire activity in the world can only be seen in 2 places in the world, namely in the crater of Mount Ijen in Indonesia and another in Iceland (Iceland).

Ijen Crater is on Mount Ijen which is located on the border of Bondowoso Regency and Banyuwangi Regency, East Java Province. Mount Ijen has a height of 2,443 meters and a slope of 40 degrees. Ijen Crater is an acidic crater lake at the top of Mount Ijen with a lake depth of 200 meters. Ijen Crater is in the Ijen Tourism Park Nature Reserve area, Bondowoso Regency and Banyuwangi Regency, East Java. Every early morning around 02.00 to 04.00, around the crater you can find the phenomenon of blue fire, which is unique to this place.
Blue Fire itself is a reaction of natural gas when it encounters oxygen at a certain level. The result of this reaction looks like a blue flame. Because of its beauty, Mount Ijen is one of the destinations frequently visited by tourists, both domestic and foreign.

The Blue Fire phenomenon in Ijen Crater may have existed for hundreds or even thousands of years ago. However, its existence was only known to the public around the 1950s. Most likely the discoverer was a local resident who was mining sulfur because Kawah Ijen is a traditional sulfur mining area.

Blue flames can only be seen in the early morning at Kawah Ijen, before sunrise. The peak moment of Ijen Crater's beauty lies when the sun is on the other side of the earth. This bright color comes from the high temperatures in the crater.
After enjoying the view of the 'blue fire' blazing in the crater of Mount Ijen, don't forget to take the time to see the sunrise. But be careful, Kawah Ijen is also one of the most acidic craters in the world. This crater has a very high acidity level, which is close to zero, so it can dissolve the human body quickly.
