Every trek brings a different story. From wild orangutans in the trees and playful Thomas leaf monkeys, to gibbons sitting high in the canopy to the beautiful Titum Arum flower, and countless other species — the jungle is full of moments you simply cannot plan for.

But 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐦 is about more than seeing animals. It’s about the forest, 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐬 𝐰𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐭.

We believe that travelling responsibly helps protect these fragile forests while creating opportunities for local communities to benefit from preserving the environment.

We’re incredibly grateful for this wonderful review from Jordan after spending a few days exploring North Sumatra with us at Sumatra EcoVentures.

From a 3-day jungle trek in Gunung Leuser National Park, to relaxing at our Canopy Lodges and discovering the unique karst forests of Batu Katak, it was a pleasure to share some of our favourite places with Jordan and his father.

Over the past few days, our Australian guest has stepped away from the usual tourist path and joined a local lady Erna Wati to experience everyday life in North Sumatra.

From getting hands-on in a traditional cooking class 🍲, to exploring the village and meeting local people, and discovering how food is grown at Erna's Cooking Class & HomeStay 🌱 — it’s been a few days of learning, sharing and genuine cultural connection.

These experiences are about slowing down, getting to know the people and places behind the destination and seeing a different side of Sumatra.

Watching them feed among the branches is a wonderful reminder of how much life is hidden above our heads in the Sumatran forest. 🌳
