Mapag Toya is a Balinese Hindu ritual that marks the beginning of the rice planting season in the village of Jatiluwih. It is a significant event for the local community, as it signifies the start of a new agricultural cycle and the hope for a bountiful harvest.
The ritual involves a procession to a sacred spring river, where offerings are made to the water spirits. The water is then brought back to the village and sprinkled on the fields, symbolizing the blessing of the land. The Mapag Toya ceremony is a beautiful blend of tradition and spirituality, reflecting the deep connection between the Balinese people and their natural environment.
Usually performed before the planting season begins, as a sign of the beginning of the planting season. There are several auspicious days that are considered suitable for carrying out this ceremony, such as Banyu Milir or Wisesa Segara. Each subak has its own agreement regarding the time of implementation, which is usually determined through deliberation. In general, magpag toya is carried out at the beginning of each planting season as a form of respect for Goddess Gangga and to ask for blessings for an abundant harvest.โจ
