Safari at Baluran National Park

In stark contrast to the lush green scenery found elsewhere on the island of Java, Baluran National Park, located on the east-most edge of Java, consists predominantly of open savannahs, where wildlife roams free.
This National Park, one of the oldest in Indonesia, is habitat to 26 mammal species among which are the rare banteng (Bos javanicus), numerous wild water buffaloes (Bubalus bubalis), the ajag/red dogs (Cuon alpinus javanicus), the muncak deer (Muntiacus muntjak), the rusa (Cervus timorensis), even leopards (Panthera pardus), the mouse deer (Tragulus javanicus) and mangrove cats (Prionailurus viverrinus).

Additionally, Baluran is also a habitat to 155 types of birds, among which are the rare fire kite (Hirundo rustica), the red forest fowl (Gallus gallus), kangkareng (Anthracoceros convecus), hornbills (Buceros rhinoceros), tuwuk or asian tuwur (Eudynamys scolopacea), peacocks (Pavo muticus), and herons (Leptoptilos javanicus).

Come and discover this African looking part in Indonesia together with our experienced rangers around the old Baluran volcano.

Manembo-Nembo Wildlife Reserve North Sulawesi

Just about 30 km from Manado city! This 6.500 ha large wildlife reserve was founded in the year 1978 to protect the animals and for its watershed value.
Manembo-nembo is a word from the local Tontemboan language and means "view from above".
One of the last primary rain forests in Sulawesi around Mount Tanuwantik (665 m), a lot of clear water rivers and steep terrain.
Home for many endemic animals like the Crested Black Macaque, Tarsier, Kuskus, Sulawesi Woodpecker, Knobbed Hornbill, Lilac-cheeked Kingfisher, Ruddy Kingfisher, Sulawesi hanging-parrot, ...
You can also observe toads, frogs and even a flying snake.
You should stay there at least for one night in our base camp.

Jumping spiders - the cutest arachnids on earth

Jumping spiders, with more than 6,380 species, are the largest family of spiders in the world.
Salticidae is the scientific name for the jumping spider family with widely in appearance, habitat and preferred prey. The largest 2,5 cm and the smallest 5 to 8 mm in length.
Impressive are their eyesight’s: four pairs of eyes, including a large forward-facing principle pair that makes the spiders look “cute”.

A special jumping spider photographer tour organized from CV Minahasa Adventure in North Sulawesi.

Thanks to our guest Yongi Ng from Singapore for all these great photos.

Birdwatchers! Is Halmahera on your bucket list?

Following the International Ornithological Congress (IOC) taxonomy in October 2020, Halmahera Island has a bird list of 314 species with 6 of these species being endemic and 14 species globally threatened on this North Moluccan Island.

The ecology of the Moluccan Islands has fascinated the British naturalists Sir Alfred Russel Wallace. His famous book „The Malay Archipelago“ was the first significant study of the area’s natural history and remains an important resource for studying Indonesian biodiversity.

Halmahera is a real heaven for bird watchers and most of the birding spots are easy to reach by car and trails. Our native local guides know the places where to hide, observe and photograph, not only the key birds of the island. Simple guest houses in villages, small hotels in towns and camping in the dense jungle can be provided as well.

You can even combinate a Bird Watching trip on North Sulawesi during your stay in Indonesia.

Please contact us for a tailor made bird watching program on Halmahera Island.
