Bangor Erris is the Gateway to the Erris region of Mayo and is located on the edge of Ballycroy National Park. The area is a haven for walkers with the waymarked 29km Bangor Trail located just south of well known Angling spot the River Owemore which flows through the village. The Erris region was voted ' the best place to go wild in Ireland ' in a recent comprehensive Irish Times competition. The
local population are without exception among the friendliest in the country and a warm welcome awaits all visitors. There is an abundance of unspoilt beaches, rivers, mountains , cliffs and endless inlets and coves to be explored in a kayak. If you like gentle strolls, longer walks or maybe some cycling the Bangor and general Erris area is right up your street. The Achill to Westport Greenway can be reached in 20 minutes by car. Erris has numerous beaches, the nearest just a ten minute drive away. There are three Blue Flag Beaches indeed within a 30 minute drive, at Elly Bay, Mullaghroe and Mulranny. If Golf is your forte there are magnificent 18 hole courses in Carne, Belmullet (20 mins drive), Ballina (30 mins drive), Wesport (55 mins drive) and Enniscrone (50 mins drive)
The cottage was built in 1947 & has been lovingly restored and completely renovated (2017) while retaining a homely and spacious feel. It has 3 bedrooms (2 doubles, 1 double/single), living room, kitchen, bathroom, shed with lock, private driveway and a large rear garden. There are 3 bedrooms with accommodation for seven people. The bathroom has a new instant electric shower and a new kitchen has been fitted. There is a large rear garden, off street parking and a lock up shed suitable for bicycles etc. Heating is via an oil boiler & the sitting room also has an open fireplace where you can relax and enjoy a log fire. The beautiful 'Ash Tree' on site is also an enjoyable feature. The house is also fitted with a smoke alarm, heat alarm, carbon monoxide alarms, first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. We also leave high vis safety vests for guests safety when walking/cycling on the local roads.
