Nollaig na mBan is an Irish tradition worth keeping alive. Like many Irish traditions, it is a custom passed orally and informally, drifting down like feathers from one generation to the next.

Today, on the 6th of January, the women of Ireland celebrate all the work completed over the festive season. It is the day when Christmas decorations come down, the chores get passed to the men, and the women meet up with female relatives and friends to have a day of rest.
So at some stage today, pop on the kettle, pick up the phone and have a chat with a mammy, a granny, a neighbour or a friend. Or enjoy a coffee in one of Lough Derg's cafes, restaurants or hotels.
