Behind every event like this is months of work that most people never see.

This interview with Collette Roche gives an insight into some of the planning, coordination and relationship-building that has been taking place between Ireland and Italy ahead of the Italy–Ireland Weekend in Cashel on 11th–12th July.

What began as conversations between a small number of people has grown into a project involving local organisations, community groups, tourism bodies, businesses, cultural organisations, local authorities and partners from both Ireland and Italy.

Many details are still being finalised, but the objective remains the same: to create lasting cultural, tourism, educational and business links that will benefit Cashel and the wider region for years to come.

A huge amount of work is happening behind the scenes, and we would like to thank everyone who continues to contribute their time, expertise and support.

Have a look at Collette's interview below and see what is being planned for this unique international weekend.

🇮🇪🤝🇮🇹 International attention continues to grow ahead of the Cashel–Italy Weekend on 11th & 12th July.

A special thank you to Irelandiani for their latest feature highlighting Cashel, the historic St. John the Baptist Cathedral, and the upcoming performance by Italian soprano Concetta Pepere.

The article also features an interview with our Chamber Secretary, archaeologist Dr. Niall Gregory, who shares the fascinating history of one of Cashel's most important landmarks.

This event is bringing together cultural, tourism, business and community partners from Ireland and Italy, helping to build lasting connections between our two countries while showcasing everything that makes Cashel special.

With visitors expected from both Ireland and Italy, we look forward to welcoming everyone to Cashel this July for what promises to be a memorable weekend of friendship, culture, history and music.

🇮🇪🤝🇮🇹 A Story of History, Remembrance and Friendship

As part of the Cashel International Cultural & Business Weekend, we are delighted to welcome **Francesco "Franco" Morelli** to Cashel for the launch of his book on the **Arandora Star tragedy**, one of the most significant and moving chapters in Irish-Italian history.

Many people in Cashel will know Franco through the Morelli family and their long connection with the town. However, beyond his local ties, Franco has spent many years researching and preserving the memory of the victims of the Arandora Star disaster and helping to strengthen the friendship between Ireland and Italy.

In 1940, the Arandora Star was sunk off the Irish coast, resulting in the loss of hundreds of Italian lives. Many of those who perished were civilians, and some found their final resting place along Ireland's west coast. Their story remains an important part of the shared history between our two nations.

The book will be formally launched by the Italian Ambassador to Ireland as part of a special programme celebrating the growing links between Cashel and Italy.

This event forms part of the wider weekend celebrating the twinning of Cashel with **Comune di Casalattico** and the growing friendship between Cashel and the **Province of Frosinone**.

As Cashel begins an exciting new chapter of cultural, educational, tourism and business cooperation with our Italian partners, it is fitting that we also remember one of the historic events that helped shape the friendship between Ireland and Italy.

Everyone is welcome to attend.

An honour to attend the celebrations marking the 80th Anniversary of the Italian Republic at the Italian Embassy in Dublin.

I was particularly proud to be included in the main photograph alongside the Italian Ambassador, representatives of the Associazione Nazionale Carabinieri Ireland and FIDCA Ireland.

Events like these help build lasting friendships and connections between Ireland and Italy, and I look forward to seeing those relationships continue to grow for the benefit of Cashel and our wider communities.

A big thank you to everyone who attended the Vacant Property Information Evening in Halla na Féile, Cashel.

It was fantastic to see such a strong turnout from property owners, business owners, and members of the local community who are interested in the future of our town.

Thank you to Tipperary County Council and all of the agencies and advisors involved for taking the time to provide information on grants, supports, planning guidance, fire safety requirements, and opportunities to bring vacant properties back into use.

The level of interest shown on the evening was extremely encouraging, and we hope it will lead to real positive changes for Cashel in the months and years ahead.

Revitalising vacant buildings creates opportunities for housing, business, investment, and a more vibrant town centre for everyone.

Thank you again to all who attended and contributed to the success of the event.

Missed the event? Don't worry.

Due to the strong interest shown, There will be another Vacant Property Information Evening later this year. If you couldn't attend this time, keep an eye on our social media channels and local announcements for future dates and updates.

Together, we can continue creating opportunities and bringing more vacant properties back into use across Cashel.
