🌿 A Proud Moment for Lough Lannagh Holiday Village 🌿
Last night, Paul and Gerardine Lennon were honoured to accept the Liam Durkan Award for Biodiversity at the Castlebar Tidy Towns Awards Ceremony — an achievement many years in the making for our Holiday Village.
This award recognises the ongoing work to protect, enhance, and nurture the biodiversity across the Lough Lannagh Holiday Village grounds, and it belongs to an incredible team effort:
• Our dedicated staff
• Skilled contractors
• Castlebar MD
• South West Mayo Development Company
• Lough Lannagh Volunteers
• TUS Scheme project teams
• And the wider Castlebar community who support and collaborate with us
Together, we’ve transformed our 14.5-acre site into a place that supports wildlife, pollinators, natural habitats, and sustainable stewardship — a small but meaningful part of the wider Lough Lannagh story.
✨ Honouring the Legacy of Liam Durkan
This award carries special significance on the 21st anniversary of Liam Durkan’s passing. Liam, former chairperson of Castlebar Tidy Towns, played a central role in regenerating key areas of Castlebar — including the early Environmental Enhancement Scheme at Lough Lannagh in 1999.
While the parklands and public amenities were the main focus of that early project, Liam’s influence continues to inspire the work we do within the Holiday Village, as we aim to protect and enhance the natural environment surrounding our accommodation, cottages, pathways, and green spaces.
Today, Lough Lannagh stands as one of Castlebar’s most treasured amenities — and we are proud that the Holiday Village contributes to that wider legacy through ongoing biodiversity actions and community partnership.
As you walk or cycle around the lake this week, we invite you to take a moment to remember Liam and his remarkable contribution to Castlebar.
💚 Thank you to everyone who continues to make Lough Lannagh Holiday Village a place we can all be proud of.
