The weather has dumped on us for the last couple of days and we were confined to the Estuary. And with big tides the fishing was tricky. We had some nice fish but long quite times as well. Let’s hope the summer is not over yet!

Conditions are a bit more challenging than the last few weeks but a Tope session produced fish for all the crew. Then as conditions improved as the tide turned we pushed out onto the reefs for a few nice drifts with plenty Pollack. And a bonus John Dory for Ed.

A nice start to a new trip by regular visitors to us here in Carrigaholt. Tope seem to be one of the species that are doing well this summer.

Still getting some lovely weather here and the fishing is just fine. Some nice Tope and Rays in the estuary and Blue Sharks at sea. Plenty of white fish off the bottom as well. Mackerel are showing up a bit better and over the last couple of days some shoals of Pilchards!.

Flat calm with sunshine for the last 2 days.

We finished up this week with a fresh northern wind. Thursday we had to stay in shelter but down towards loop head, so we did get some reasonable pollack drifts mixed with mackerel. At anchor we had a nice few Tope.
Then today the wind had eased quite a bit and we pushed out to do a shark drift. The lads all got Sharks with a mix of Blues and Porbegals and the icing on the cake was a fine blue over 100lbs.

With the wind freshening up from the west we were confined to the estuary for the last 2 days. There were a few mackerel going which is always a good start. Also quite a few small scad. The bottom fishing while not hectic, was steady and the lads had some nice fish including Bullhuss, Rays and Tope.

17/08/2026

We got out today ahead of a freshening wind. Sean gave me a shout on the way down the estuary to say there where some mackerel about, so that was handy. Then out to set up a drift in perfect conditions. But the wind did start to freshen quickly. Still we had 3 porbegal and 3 blue shark to the boat before we headed in a bit sooner than we would like. Still a nice day.

We got around to the north side of the loop today before it freshened and had a nice days fishing in the shelter. Mackerel where slow on the drift but plenty Pollack to keep us awake! At anchor we picked up a few species and even got a little session with a shoal of mackerel turning up.

Sometimes when the Pollack are talking everything we put down the Skipper has to try!! And up popes a lovely John Dory😎🍾
