Ireland’s Most Dramatic Entrance? The Hindu-Gothic Dromana Gateway Arch

Some places make an entrance, but Dromana Gateway Arch makes a reveal. As you follow the winding country lane through the Waterford countryside, the arch stays hidden behind the trees until suddenly it appears in all its glory — a dramatic and unexpected sight framed by the river, bridge and woodland. The sense of arrival is unforgettable.
Built in the early 19th century at the entrance to the Dromana estate, the striking gateway Hindu Gothic in style, blending Gothic architecture with exotic Eastern influences. Built in approximately 1849, and restored by the Irish Georgian Society in 1968, it continues to captivate visitors nearly 200 years after it was built.
Sometimes the best views aren’t the ones you can see from miles away—they’re the ones that slowly unveil themselves around the next bend in the road, just like Lismore Castle does as we pass it on the way home again.

There is nothing quite like an evening spin to reset for the week ahead. 🌊☀️

Taking the long way round to Ballycotton on a sunny evening, and the drive was absolutely magical. There’s something so hypnotic about the way the evening sun light flashes through the trees as you navigate those twisting winding, narrow country lanes on the way.

Stood for a while taking in the silhouette of the old Mary Stanford as she overlooks the Atlantic, with the iconic lighthouse standing guard on the island in the distance. The sea air and that fading evening sun were exactly what the soul needed.

Feeling recharged and ready for whatever the week brings.

☀️🏍️ Summer Evening Spin to Cobh 🏍️☀️

Made the most of a stunning summer evening with a spin down to the historic town of Cobh. The route was everything you could want on a bike — winding, tree-lined roads, sweeping bends, and the occasional castle appearing through the countryside as a reminder of the rich history scattered across this corner of Cork.
With the sun shining, light traffic, and harbour views waiting at the end of the road, it was one of those evenings that reminds you why we ride.

Of course, every great ride needs a story... 😅 In the space of about 15 seconds, I managed to make three blunders in a row and somehow ended up decorating a flower bed. No damage done, apart from a bruised ego and a few laughs for anyone lucky enough to witness it. 🌸😂

Lesson learned: when squeezing out of a tight spot, always leave room for the pannier bag. The bike might clear it perfectly... the pannier, however, may have a different plan entirely!

🌿✨ A Magical Journey Through the Dark Hedges, Co. Antrim ✨🌿

aStep back in time with this footage captured in 2016, taken on the back of a Yamaha Dragstar 1100, when it was still possible to drive beneath the iconic canopy of the Dark Hedges. Stretching dramatically along the road, the intertwining beech trees create a breathtaking natural tunnel, their twisted branches arching overhead like something from a fairy tale.

As dawn breaks, the scene becomes truly magical. The first rays of sunlight filter through the tangled branches, casting ever-changing patterns of light and shadow across the road. Soft golden hues slowly replace the cool blue tones of early morning, transforming the avenue into an enchanting and almost otherworldly landscape.

This drive offers a glimpse of the Dark Hedges as many remember them. Sadly, following significant storm damage in recent years and efforts to protect the remaining trees, vehicles are no longer permitted to drive through the avenue as shown in this footage. Today, visitors can still experience its beauty on foot, helping to preserve this remarkable landmark for future generations.

A rare look back at one of Northern Ireland’s most atmospheric sights—captured in the quiet magic of a sunrise that made the Dark Hedges feel truly timeless. 🍃🌅 #2016
