You don't actually need a car to get out of the city for the day. If you fancy heading down to Crosshaven this weekend, the 220 bus has it sorted.

Here’s a handy way to spend the day:

Walk or cycle the greenway from Carrigaline

Grab a coffee at 2 Point Road ()

Head up to Camden Fort Meagher () for the views, to learn about Cork's maritime history and check out their on site café.

If you are bringing the kids you could book into for an immersive marine experience

Wrap it up with food and drinks at Cronin’s Pub ()

It's a 24-hour route, so there's no rush getting back up to the city either. Save this post for your next day out!

Is Cork really the food capital of Ireland?

We took to the streets during last year’s Cork on a Fork festival to ask the real experts. The people eating their way through the city and the answer was an overwhelming YES.

From world-class artisan producers to coastal waters and historic markets, Cork’s food story isn't just about single dishes; it’s about a culture that lives and breathes local ingredients. And the best part? The festival season stretches straight from late summer into winter across the entire county.

If you’re planning your culinary roadmap for the rest of the year, here is what’s on the menu:

📍 Cork on a Fork Fest (Aug 12–16)
Five packed days in the heart of Cork City featuring lively street food trails, outdoor pop-up feasts, celebrity chef demos, and local tasting tours.

📍 fEast Cork (Sept 6)
A celebration of the food, drink, and rich agricultural heartland of East Cork and Midleton, bringing together local farmers, artisan makers, and community feasts.

📍 Cork & Kerry Food Market (Oct 31st - Nov 1st)
Munster’s premier indoor gathering under the roof of City Hall, showcasing hundreds of local creators, tasting stalls, and live masterclasses.

Dursey Island is the ultimate day trip location for those looking to truly disconnect. Tucked away at the western tip of the Beara Peninsula, this is West Cork at its most raw, rugged, and peaceful.

With no shops, no pubs, and no traffic, it’s just you and the elements. 🌬️✨

🚠 Ireland’s Only Cable Car: Your journey starts with a unique crossing suspended high above the swirling Dursey Sound.
🐬 A Wildlife Sanctuary: A world-class spot for birdwatching and spotting dolphins or whales breaking the surface.
🥾 The Signal Tower Loop: Hike to the island’s peak for panoramic views stretching all the way to the Skelligs.

🧺 The Essentials: Since there are no facilities on the island, don't forget to pack plenty of food and water for your trip. Help us keep this wild landscape pristine by leaving no trace and bringing all your rubbish home with you. 💚

Experience a side of the Wild Atlantic Way where time stands still.
