Intensely fragrant cheese experiences are always a highlight of a Raw Milk Retreat! We visited this cellar on our Puglia retreat and were then treated to an absolutely lush picnic of all the products made on the farm- including their beer!

Our Puglia retreat folks learned how to make the regional pasta shape, orecchiette, with a genuine Nonna. We're looking forward to trying our hands at some unique Croatian cuisine in just a few months-- if you'd like to join us, we still have a couple rooms available!

Another favourite part of retreats is sharing in the history and beauty of local artisans and artists. Grottaglie, Italy is renowned for its ceramics, and the town is filled with unique potters preserving history and bringing a new twist to the traditional. We even had a go at throwing some pots ourselves!

Next autumn we'll be heading to Marrakech, Morocco, home to so many traditional crafts- dying and weaving, tanning, perfumerie, and more. Looking forward to experiencing it with our guests!

A Raw Milk retreat is never complete without a visit to a cheese farm!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I often get asked why my business is called Raw Milk, and it all comes back to cheese. Raw milk cheese, like wine, has its own terroir. A cheese tastes of where it’s made- of the unique forage the cows graze, the distinct flora of the unpasteurised milk, and the fermentation techniques used by cheesemakers that go back generations. Raw milk cheese is indicative of a place and time, a perfect demonstration of the links between land, food, and culture.

And so one thing I can always promise on a retreat? Cheese!

Tucked away in the olive groves and vineyards of Locorotondo, Puglia — the trulli felt like something out of a fairytale. Every destination has its own version of ‘home,’ and there, its limestone walls and cone-shaped roofs built by hand. These trulli at , built in the 16th century by Stefania’s family, housed our retreat guests for our dreamy week in the south of Italy.

When I find the estates, farmhouses, castles, and chalets we inhabit on our retreats, I try to find homes with character, that tell the story of where we are. Hopefully a little bit of their magic goes home with you 🩶

Those that visited the Yellow Door will recognise this colour scheme- just a bit of a bright refresh for the new shop.
