Every stitch counted..
Set in Glenties in the 1930s, Dancing at Lughnasa offers a moving portrait of work, care, and resilience in rural Ireland. Agnes Mundy (played by Lorraine Ledwith from Fore) knits gloves in her cottage kitchen to earn a few shillings to help sustain the household, quiet, necessary labour carried out by firelight between meals, chores, and moments of care. Her hands keep moving as lives are held together one stitch at a time.
Presented on their Delvin homestage for three performances, 24, 25 and 26 of April this production explores the rhythms of daily life, memory, and movement in a world on the brink of change, reminding us that before speed and convenience, warmth and meaning were made by hand.
