The Sleeping Giant is a piece of local folklore.

The outline of the island is seen as a giant lying on his back across the Atlantic Ocean. It’s also known as An Fear Marbh, which in the local Irish language translates to “The Dead Man,” because of its human-like shape on the horizon. The story says the gentle giant lay down to rest after shaping the land, or in some versions, after eating too many stews. Once you see the shape, it’s impossible to unsee it.

Di**le went back to the 1500s this weekend ⚔️🇮🇪🇪🇸
The Irish–Spanish Tercio Brotherhood filled the town with drills and pageantry to mark the Treaty of Di**le and remember those lost at Dún an Óir.

Spanish and Irish reenactors marched through the streets, and brought history to life 🌊✨

Left us looking forward to the 500th year anniversary on 28th April 2029.
