Big news for County Clare! It's officially the first countywide certified sustainable tourism destination in Ireland!

Awarded the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Destination Certification, Clare is now recognised globally for its commitment to sustainable travel 🌿. This achievement puts Clare alongside eco-conscious destinations like The Azores, Greenland, and Colorado! Congrats to the Clare GSTC Destination Green Team for leading the way in sustainable tourism (established in 2023 by the Tourism Department of Clare County Council and the Clare Tourism Advisory Forum). The team at The Burren and Cliffs of Moher UNESCO Global Geopark along with local tourism networks also played a role in achieving this milestone.

At Doolin Ferry, we’re proud to play our part as members of the Burren Ecotourism Network, committed to protecting our land, sea & community for future generations.

There's a so-called scientific account of how the 40,000 interlocking basalt columns that make up the Giant's Causeway in County Antrim formed 60 million years ago, something about a volcanic eruption during the Paleocene Epoch, blah, blah. But sure the clue's in the name, duh!

It was built as a bridge between Ireland and Scotland by Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn McCool). The legendary hunter-warrior intended to walk across to Scotland and slay his enemy, a Scottish giant by the name Bernandonner. Fionn worked so hard at building the bridge that he decided to rest awhile before crossing to Scotland but while he was sleeping, Bernandonner crossed the new causeway in search of him. When Fionn's wife Oonaugh saw how much bigger Bernandonner was, she became afraid that he would overpower her husband so she quickly wrapped up Fionn and pretended to cradle him, as if he was her baby. When the giant Scotsman saw the enormous baby, he thought its father must be a much larger giant than himself, so he turned on his heel and high-tailed it all the way back to Scotland, tearing up the causeway as he went to prevent Fionn mac Cumhaill from following him.

There y'are now, and don't let anyone tell you different! 🥰
