We share the deep alarm expressed by many at the prospect of the anti-LGBT DUP propping up the new British government and influencing its direction. This is a party with some quite disturbing views in a number of areas, including women's rights, science, climate change, and of course LGBT rights.

By abusing an anti-sectarian mechanism known as a 'Petition Of Concern' to continually block marriage equality in Northern Ireland, their policies are already directly harming the LGBT community there. In Britain, on the other hand, huge strides have been made on LGBT rights in recent years - a process that must continue and accelerate, not go backwards, as part of any deal to keep Theresa May and her party in government.

We also strongly reaffirm our support for NI joining the rest of these Islands and enshrining equal marriage rights for same-sex couples.
