Standing quietly beside the river in Westport, this bronze bust honours Major John MacBride 🇮🇪

Vice Commandant of the Irish Republican Army, once a Major in the Boer forces of the South African Republic, and organiser of the Transvaal Irish Brigade. This legend was executed on 5th May 1916 for his part in the Easter Rising.

The plaque carries his own words, spoken years earlier in defence of the Manchester Martyrs: no man can claim authority to barter away the rights of nationhood, for which Irishmen have fought, suffered and died.

A small monument, easy to walk past, but it holds a huge piece of Irish history right in the middle of town.

Golden hour on the Carrowbeg, the kind of light that stops everyone in their tracks. One last photo before the sun slips behind the rooftops and trees lining this stretch of the river, the sky doing all the work in shades of gold and grey.

Westport has a way of turning an ordinary evening walk into something worth stopping for. The old stone bridge, the water moving slow and quiet beneath it, a town that still feels like it belongs to another century even as the modern world carries on around it. This is one of those towns on the west coast of Ireland where you plan to stay one night and end up staying three.

If you find yourself here as the sun goes down, do what everyone else does. Stop on the bridge. Take the photo. Let the evening slow you down for a minute.

POV: You thought Your Irish Tour HQ was a luxurious office… 😎

For a few seconds, we almost had you fooled! 😂

The truth? We don’t have a fancy corporate office with glass walls and boardrooms.

Our office is Ireland itself. 🇮🇪 (also a bit done at home) 😉

Most of our planning happens behind the wheel, on the road, visiting hotels, checking routes, finding hidden gems, and making sure every tour runs as smoothly as possible.

So while the “office” might not be quite as glamorous as the video suggests… the view from our real workplace is hard to beat. ☘️🚐

When Kathy’s family got unexpectedly stranded overnight in Washington D.C., we knew our job wasn’t just about showing them Ireland it was about making sure they got here with as little stress as possible. We’re delighted we could help get everything sorted.
