🟢 IFI advises that Galway + Erriff fisheries have both re-opened 🐟 Excessively warm water temperatures last week led the fisheries to be closed temporarily to all angling – including catch & release – to protect fish from potentially lethal heat stress.

🐟 Tomorrow is World Fish Migration Day 👋 Meet some of Ireland's migratory fish: Sea lamprey; European eel; Atlantic salmon; & finally twaite shad, which all travel between Ireland's rivers and coastal waters to complete their life-cycle.

🟢 To survive and thrive, migratory fish must overcome challenges, such as adapting to the different environmental conditions in freshwater and seawater habitats, and escaping natural predators and threats posed by humans as they travel between salt and freshwater, crossing barriers on their journey.

🟢 National Biodiversity Week (May 15-24) 📣 IFI Fisheries Officer Maureen Byrne spoke about fish habitat restoration work on the River Boyne catchment, Co , at a free event recently.

🐟 Since restoration work, fish spawning sites (redds) at the catchment have increased from 100 redds in 2021, to 400+ redds in 2025.
