On Dublin Wars Walking Tours we take our tour goers to the site of the Medical Mission beside the Four Courts which contains what is probably the best visible war damage in the city dating from the 1916 Rising. On Easter Monday morning 50 British Lancers were attacked by rebels in the four courts as they made their way West along the North Quays away from the city center. After surrering heavy casualties the survivors took refuge in this building on a side street. They remained under siege in this building until Thursday when they were rescued by improvised Armoured Personel Carriers from Guninness Brewery. Learn more on our Walking Tours.

Watch this interesting clip on the Ashtown ambush from a TG4 documentary on the life on Dan Breen. The ambush was ordered by Michael Collins who brought the Tipperary IRA and his own squad together for the attack. There is currently a monument to mark the spot of the ambush at the Ashtown roundabout opposite the Halfway House pub where Cabra become the Navan road. Watch for the great interview with Vinny Byrne, the youngest member of Collins' squad who lived until 1992.
