Join me to celebrate Swift's 350th at 'Jonathan Swift: Freeman of Dublin' in the Dublin Writers Museum on Saturday December 2nd at 2.30 p.m. I will be reading from a selection of the tales, pamphlets, poetry and letters written by this great Dublin writer. It's amazing how contemporary and relevant his writing sounds, three centuries after it was composed. Not to mention how trenchant and entertaining it is, too.

Why not join me this summer for a two-hour exploration of Samuel Beckett's Irish origins in Foxrock, County Dublin, the place where he grew up and didn't leave until he was thirty-one. Now in its third year, the walk starts again tomorrow July 3rd at 3.15 pm and then runs every Sunday at that time until September 4.

Meet at Tullow Church, where the Beckett family used to worship. Find out about the real Mrs. Rooney. How could Watt see the Beckett home from the former railway station? All this and coffee where Beckett did his shopping. And it's even cheaper than Murphy's fourpenny lunch.

The Foxrock Beckett walk is part of the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Summer of Heritage season and the brochure can be downloaded at Facebook/summerofheritage.

Looking for something to do in Dublin on New Year's Day? I am inviting you to join me in celebrating the 1916 centenary early on a special poetry tour of Stephen's Green from 2.30 - 4 pm. The walk, called A Portrait of 1916: Poetry and Power, celebrates the poetry that flowed into, around and out of the year of the Easter Rising.

The walk will visit many of the memorials and memory sites in the environs of Dublin’s Stephen’s Green and includes readings from authors such as James Joyce, W.B. Yeats, Patrick Pearse and Tom Kettle.

Tickets are free of charge but I'll pass the hat around at the end. Shake off your New Year blues at the Fusiliers' Arch, at the corner of the Green, opposite Grafton Street at 2.30 pm. on January 1st. And watch this space for further developments...
