The Camino de Santiago is one of the oldest continuously used pilgrimage routes in the world. Pilgrims have been making their way to Santiago de Compostela since the 9th century, when the tomb of St James the Apostle was discovered in what is now the city's magnificent cathedral. At its medieval peak, hundreds of thousands walked every year.
Today, that number has returned: in 2025 over 530,000 pilgrims received the Compostela certificate. The Holy Year 2027 (when the Feast of St James falls on a Sunday) is expected to be the biggest in recorded history.
Routes are already filling up. If you've ever thought "I'll do it someday"... someday might be 2026 or 2027! 💛
