Ireland’s ancient culture is rooted in right relationship with the land.
The land wasn’t just a resource, it was a living entity, often personified as a goddess like Ériú, Banba or Fódla.

We lived close to the land and the land provided the materials we needed. Against the tide of colonisation, we managed to hold tight to our crafts & customs, our stories & songs.

As the well-known Irish proverb
or Seanfhocal goes ;
“Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine”
which translates as “In the shelter of each other, the people live”

We have always relied on one another for protection and survival, functioning best through cooperation.
In the face of life’s challenges, our solidarity is what brings us strength and helps us to thrive.

We are now experiencing a return to traditional ways of living in right relationship with the land.
We are realising that we must tend community in order to thrive.
“Ní neart go cur le chéile”
~ “There is no strength without unity”

Will you join us as we journey to the ancestral wellspring and together tend the threads of these ancient crafts & customs?
Let us breath life into the old ways and welcome the wisdom of our ancestors so that we may be guided on how best to move in these changing times.

Living Traditions is a celebration of craft, culture & community 🌀

We are so so excited to announce that of will be crossing the waters to join us this Autumn for Living Traditions ‘25! She will be weaving in her medicine & music along our way.
We will be guided in rediscovering ancestral traditions, reclaiming folk music as a tool for healing, and engaging in meaningful dialogue about land, lineage, and the human experience 🌀

Delve into the heart of Ireland’s vibrant cultural heritage through traditional ways of living in relationship with a land where story, craft, and song are woven together. Our adventure will lead us to places steeped in ecological, archaeological, and cultural significance in the western wilds of Ireland. Discover hidden stone circles on secluded hillsides, engage with local artisans in their workshops, wander through ancient forests, and visit islands that are living libraries preserving Ireland’s native language and heritage.

We’ll visit stone carvers and woodworkers, learn about basketry and traditional food preservation techniques, and experience the wild landscapes that make it all possible. Get to know the craftspeople and storytellers keeping the skills and spirit of this enchanted island alive. Living Traditions will weave you into a tapestry of skills, stories, songs and places of kinship with the land and its history.
