After a beautiful summer, Mother Nature reminds us of who's in charge, on a blustery autumn morning at Ballyryan between Doolin and Fanore. This is where the Burren meets the Wild Atlantic Way, looking out at the Aran Islands and Galway Bay. When you visit the Burren, be sure to stop and savour this view!!!

Café and wellness space Dolly's Liscannor was inspired by the late country singer who they have hailed for her “generosity and compassion” that came through in all she did

Owner Elaine Slattery told the Irish Independent that the name of the “community-minded” coffee spot came about from her love of Dolly’s music and her outlook on life

“We’ve always loved Dolly not just for her music, but for the way she treats people” she said. “She has this incredible generosity and warmth that seems to come through in everything she does

“Dolly has never been afraid to be Dolly. She’s glamorous, funny, clever, compassionate and unapologetically herself and we really admire that”

Young Eugene Garrihy talks about the culture of music, story-telling and hospitality in Doolin, Co. Clare. Doolin is an ideal touring base for the Burren & Cliffs of Moher Geopark, with a regular bus and shuttle service in and out of the village. Excellent local guides help visitors day after day to understand the area and to enjoy their time here in North Clare.
It was great to see the story telling event at the Russell Cultural Centre last week attracting crowds and showcasing the talents of local residents, keeping the tradition alive!!

Newtown castle in Ballyvaughan is a unique 16th century fortified tower house built originally for a branch of the O‘Briens. It passed thereafter into the possession of the powerful local O’Loghlen clan. Peter O’Loghlen – with a title “Prince of the Burren” – was the last recorded occupant in the late 1800s. The castle is now surrounded by the Burren College of Art, and is an ideal venue for weddings, conferences and graduations. Proprietor, Mary Hawkes Greene tells us more!!

This weekend, Caherconnell Fort turns into a working forge!

Now in its 4th year, more than 50 blacksmiths and iron smelters from Ireland, the UK and Europe will arrive at Caherconnell on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August.

Smelting iron ore from the Burren into blooms, then hammering it into arrowheads, knives and spearheads just like the ones found on this very site. And this year we have a very special guest, world-famous blacksmith Alec Steele.

It is quite a spectacle, and one not to miss. Yet another reason to visit the Burren!!

Tickets are available at https://f.mtr.cool/bievr8hl0l
