'I live in a small place called Bundorragha in the parish of Leenane in Co Mayo.

Bundorragha got this name because it is in a hollow and it is very dark. In this place there are seven houses: Coynes, Nees, Heneghans, Gradys, Walshs, Gallaghers, and McLoughlins.

The most common surname in this place is Heneghan. There are about eight people in this place over 70 years: Pat Nee, Tom Nee, John Grady, Michael Walsh, Michael Coyne, Mrs Nee, Mrs Walsh and Mrs Gavin.

The old people can tell stories in English. Many of the people of this place do not go to America now but long ago all the young people went there to make money.

Most of the land in this place is bogland. There are two woods in this place namely Delphie Wood and Dublagh Wood.'

As collected by Caitlín Ní Nia, Bundorragha NS, in the schools collection of 1937.

On her own, primary school pupil Caitlín collected twenty stories from the elderly in her district, an extremely impressive feat.
