group size: 6 students. Duration: 2.5 hours. What you take home: Online links to course notes and example galleries. What to bring: Just yourself, walking shoes, a motivation to learn and obviously your preferred camera! (And a tripod for night walks if you have one). Walk around Galway's beautiful lanes and canals, photographing the city's iconic vistas. Learn how to move away from your camera's
auto mode, reveal movement through long-exposure techniques, how to frame a scene, adjust your camera’s settings in low light and generally have fun photographing in a new environment. Notes from the photo walk are supplied to you at the end so that you can spend the entire walk simply getting some hands on practice with your camera. This group photo walk is limited to six students only. Covering the basics of technical and compositional photography, the group photo walks are intended for beginners and intermediate photographers. For advanced amateurs and working professionals it is recommended that you get in touch to book a one on one photo walk. Meeting point: Spanish Arch, Galway

Nicholas Grundy is a self-taught photographer who started the never-ending learning process in 2006 when he first set off to explore the world with an old point and shoot camera. Currently a Getty Images contributor, his first exhibition and major award both occurred in 2008, and since then he's received numerous commendations and his work has been exhibited in multiple galleries in Berlin and Melbourne. His work also appears in such publications as Time Magazine, The Age, Sydney Morning Herald, International Traveller and Australian Traveller Magazine. Nicholas' fine art prints appear in the collections of the University of Melbourne and in various private homes and institutions across Australia, Europe, and the U.S. Nicholas Grundy has successfully mentored his students on photography walks in Berlin, Melbourne and Galway towards producing wonderful images, regardless of whether they take their photos with a €2,000 DSLR, a film rangefinder, a point and shoot, mobile phone, or even an egg! (Yes, you can take a photo with an egg. Ask me and I will show you how some time!)
For some inspiration before the walk, check out Nicholas' portfolios at www.nicholasgrundy.com. Many of these photographs were created with point and shoot cameras, proving that you don't need an expensive camera to create striking works. See if you can determine which photos were taken on a point and shoot instead of a DSLR – most people cannot!
