Our Driver-Guide Declan Noone takes us behind the scenes at Cratloe Moyle Castle in County Clare, where we recently brought the Ziegler family from the US to a place with a rather special connection to their family.

Getting them there wasn’t quite as simple as pulling up outside. The field was cut, overgrowth cleared, cattle moved and, when access became particularly tricky, a bridge was built.

There are places where you learn about Irish history… and then there are places where you can almost *step inside it* 🛖

At Craggaunowen in Co. Clare, history is taken out from behind the museum glass and brought to life.

Our recent guests, Rose and Kathryn, explored reconstructed thatched dwellings, crossed the wooden causeway to a Crannóg, discovered how people once cooked and lived, and met characters along the way who helped tell the story of Ireland centuries ago.

The wonder of Craggaunowen takes you through different chapters of ancient and early Ireland, before bringing you forward to the 16th century with Craggaunowen Castle, standing on the same remarkable site.

It’s a wonderful stop for history and heritage lovers, but equally for families. There’s something very different about walking into a dwelling, standing around the hearth and seeing how people might actually have lived. It makes history feel real, particularly for younger travellers.

Takeaway: Not every memorable experience in Ireland needs to be traditionally ‘luxury’. Sometimes, authenticity is the luxury.

🦅Falconry Experience in Killarney 🦉

It's fansciating for us and for our guests to get up close and personal with some of Ireland’s incredible birds of prey at Killarney falconry.

We met Micko the falcon 🦅 and our wonderful falconer, who gave us a brilliant experience and taught us all about the amazing wild birds of Ireland.

Their habits,
Their personalities,
Their 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 in our landscape.

And then there was Helen the owl 🦉 She was cheeky and mischievous... unmistakably an Irish owl 😂☘️

Ireland can be wonderfully old-fashioned. Much of what people come to see is old. 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗹𝗱.
