Ruins with a View — Ballycarbery Castle

Set against the wild Atlantic backdrop just outside Cahersiveen, Ballycarbery Castle looks like something from a storybook. Though mostly in ruins today, you can still sense the grandeur of what was once one of the largest and most important castles on the Iveragh Peninsula.

It’s a striking stop along the Ring of Kerry — ivy-covered walls, windswept fields, and centuries of history all in one photo.

Step into the past at CAHERGAL FORT

Just outside Cahersiveen, this remarkably well-preserved stone ring fort dates back over a thousand years. Built for defence and community, its thick drystone walls and elevated views over the landscape give a glimpse into Ireland’s ancient way of life.

Add it to your Ring of Kerry itinerary and walk in the footsteps of history.

Valentia Island: Where the Past Still Speaks

Did you know the first successful transatlantic telegraph cable connected Valentia Island to Newfoundland in 1866? This wild Atlantic spot isn’t just scenic — it helped shape global communication.

“The Cable”, a performance inspired by that incredible story, is on at Siamsa Tíre in Tralee from 17–20 July.

“THE ISLAND MAN” stands watch over the Atlantic—his gaze fixed on the Blasket Islands, once home to a unique and resilient community.

This striking sculpture honours the memory of the islanders, whose lives, language, and stories have become part of Ireland’s cultural legacy.

You’ll find him outside the BLASKET CENTRE in Dún Chaoin on the DI**LE Peninsula—a stop we’re always proud to include in our West Kerry TOURS.

Want to walk in the footsteps of the islanders? Ask us about adding the Blaskets to your bespoke Irish itinerary.
