🎂🥾250th Anniversary of ‘Arthur Young’s Walk’🎂🥾
Muckross Peninsula

📖 Arthur Young (1741–1820) was an influential English Writer, Agriculturist, and the First Secretary of the British Board of Agriculture.

🎩 He visited the Herberts of Muckross Estate in September 1776, as research for his acclaimed best seller ‘ A Tour Of Ireland’.

🌳 While staying with the influential Landlord family for four nights, he took a walk around the Muckross Peninsula. So mesmerised by the landscape and natural beauty of the Peninsula, he explored the magnificent native Oak Woods, the rare Reenadinna Yew Wood, its limestone formations and rare flora.
💼 His glowing writings about the Muckross walk were honoured by establishing ‘Arthur Young Walk’ on the 27 September 1776.

🥾 •Arthur Young Walk is clearly marked. Should you wish to take the trail in your own time.

🥾 It begins to the right of Muckross Lake about 200 metres from Muckross House and follows a route along Muckross Peninsula between Lough Leane and Muckross Lake. Extensive Yew Woods at Reenadinna - which have varied carpets of mosses and liverworts underneath.
🌳 There are also many fine specimens of oak, arbutus and holly trees. It is a special area of conservation. Arthur Young (1741-1820) was widely regarded by his contemporaries as the leading agricultural writer of the time.

A huge thank you to everyone who came to our Garden open day today 👏

It was lovely to see some familiar faces and meet some new visitors.

So grateful particularly to Rhonda and Gaiana for their amazing help in the cafe, and to the Kenmare District Garden club for their brilliant turn out, support and for stopping for coffee and cake and chats 🍃

But most of all to John for his creativity and incredible hard work in making this wonderful garden here in Shandrum 🌾

Working away in the garden all week in preparation for our Open Day this Sunday and our dog Ferdy is always nearby in all weathers. He’s decided to have a snooze at the back of a border we’re working on. But of course has woken up when his picture is taken! 🐾

If anyone can offer a retirement home to these older boys do contact Miraclehill microsanctuary on the original post, thank you 🙏🏻

Two suitable homes have come forward so its just to figure out schedules 🙏 🪿

We are looking for sanctuary space ideally, for our 4 elderly friendly ganders, but kind retirement homes otherwise.

They are in two distinct pairs so can be split up based off of that, & we don’t believe that would cause major upset, but equally they could go together as the original group.

Transport can be organised for the right home home/s & more details will be discussed with interested parties.
