Carriglea House and courtyard cottages Carriglea House`is an unique 19th. century Victorian residence with large grounds, adjoining The Killarney National Park and overlooks The Killarney Lakes,

Carriglea’, was built around 1860, by a Colonel Leahy, a civil engineer in The British army and by then the local magistrate, the design is a Victorian Italianate with its adjacent carriage house. Four generations later John & Eileen Beazley continue the tradition and welcome you to Carriglea. The Beazley family at Carriglea House first opened its doors to guests in the summer of 1932 and this tradition had continued each summer since, encompassing 4 generations of our family. Carriglea is a historic house and Is one of the few old houses in Killarney open to guests.

Your breakfast this morning will be cooked by John Beazley and served to you in a traditional manner as it would have been in 1932.

Your breakfast apart from the meat which is grilled, will be cooked on our original aga. The aga which incidentally was designed by a blind man, graced the kitchens of all the large country houses and to this day is considered the ultimate status symbol. The aga ovens cook with radiant heat which unlike modern ovens is a kinder heat, preserving the moisture and flavour in the food. Of course unlike the modern cookers it must be treated and spoken to correctly and in return you have a friend for life.

The eggs are free range organic and are from our own farm.
The brown bread is Eileen’s own unique family recipe with 10 ingredients and aga baked to give it the traditional flavour.

The dining room is largely unchanged in 150 years and I hope you enjoy your dining experience in it.

Kingdom hunt club passing through the farm at Carriglea House during their annual drag hunt. Great to see the horses and riders, both young and old, enjoying the countryside on a fine Spring morning. I don't think they had time however to stop and admire the scenery

A bus collects guests from Carriglea House for the Gap of Dunloe tour. The oldest tour in Killarney, involving a walk/carriage ride through the mountains and a traditional boat trip on the 3 lakes. A tour we all love to do. This photo was only taken last year, but it could be 100 years ago.

Mike Mackey our local undertaker called me aside at a funeral recently to say he read a very flattering article about me in a national newspaper, my first thought was 'surely not it in the obituary page' but thankfully it wasn't.
Mike explained it was an article on 'The Ring of Kerry' by Declan Cunningham. The said article outlined the wonderful ways to explore the Ring of Kerry, Declan on this occasion cycled the 180km route in one day. Where to stay, well Declan recommends 'The beautiful Carriglea House overlooking Lough Leane in Killarney'. Thanks Declan, but then again as we Irish would say 'where would you be going without a bell on your bike'?

A red deer rutting in the Killarney National park. In the October evenings and early night due to our proximity to the Park one can hear the mating call of these wonderful stags from the lawns of Carriglea. Something these animals have done in Killarney since the ice age.

Another fantastic image courtesy of Tim McSweeney©
Some of the images we are hoping to see this Sunday on the Rut Walk in Killarney National Park.

A c**k pheasant takes to the skies on his maiden flight in his new home during our annual release of pheasants into the wild. Carriglea is an ideal site for the release as it is surrounded by The National Park.

Sadly' Prince' our loyal friend of 25 years passed away in August. Unknown to us he had a huge fan base of local people who saw him daily and his imposing figure will be missed from the hillside. Returning guests often ask about him, if you remember 'Prince' give him a like!
