LAUNCH OF THE 2023 CRUINNIU NA MBAD POSTER!!!!
The artwork for this year’s Cruinniu na mBad poster is brought to us by abstract artist, Debbie Browne. In April of this past year, Debbie exhibited her “Leave Your Mark” show. This local, community-oriented project was created and directed by Debbie with the help of over 60 friends and family. What started as an 8 ft. by 5 ft. piece of blank white paper evolved into an exciting collection of scribbles, doodles and marks made by Debbie’s friends and family, with Debbie intermittently adding her own paint in between. Eventually the large piece was cut into six individual pieces and framed. The artwork on the Cruinniu na mBad poster is one of those six individual pieces. Although not as contemporary as the poster artwork in the past, the Cruinniu na mBad Committee believe that Debbie’s project promotes the importance of our community in Kinvara, and is a mesmerisingly beautiful depiction of a boat out at sea.
Debbie has been a member of Kinvara’s community for over 30 years. Her husband, Declan Connolly, and herself were avid sailors for decades, and great supporters of the Cruinniu na mBad. Debbie was diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy (MSA) in October of 2021. MSA is a rare, incurable, progressive neurological disorder that affects the body’s movement, balance, speech and swallow, and autonomic functions, including blood pressure, temperature, digestive, cardio and respiratory control. Debbie’s diagnosis was one of the many things that sparked the “Leave Your Mark” project. It is an exploration of community, care and friendship, much like the Cruinniu na mBad itself.
If you’d like to learn more about the “Leave Your Mark” project, and view more of Debbie’s artwork, please visit her website, debbiebrowne.art. There will be 100 copies of the poster signed by Debbie available to purchase over the Cruinniu na mBad weekend. Unsigned posters and previous year's festival posters are available to purchase in Eurospar Kinvara. From all of us in the Cruinniu na mBad Committee, thank you Debbie, for allowing us to use this exceptional piece of artwork, and for inspiring a new and colourful way to see the world.
