🌊 Forget the postcard... this is the real Skellig Coast 🌊

From the water, the coastline reveals a completely different world. Towering sea caves, ancient rock formations and the raw power of the Atlantic come together to create a view that simply can't be experienced from land.

On our Valentia Island Experience tour, this is where the Skellig Coast feels at its most dramatic, with every journey offering a new perspective on one of Ireland's most spectacular coastlines.

Hard to believe, but high above the crashing Atlantic on Skellig Michael, people once called this place home…

The Upper Lighthouse sits in one of the most dramatic locations imaginable, first lighting the way for ships in the 1820s.

Before modern technology, lighthouse keepers and their families lived out here, surrounded by wild seas, seabirds, and weather that could change in a heartbeat.

Imagine waking each morning on the edge of the Atlantic, keeping watch over passing ships far below.

Today, the light no longer shines from the Upper Lighthouse, but the stories remain.

As proud partners of the Great Lighthouses of Ireland, we feel incredibly lucky to help share the history of these remarkable places and the lives once lived on Ireland’s rugged Atlantic edge

So come see Skellig Michael from the water’s edge with AquaTerra Boat Tours and discover the stories for yourself.

šŸ†šŸ›„ Our Skellig Bounty sails into Blue Flag history in Ireland šŸ‡®šŸ‡Ŗ šŸ’™

As a small family-run business Brendan and I are incredibly proud to receive the Blue Flag International award for our marine tourism boat Skellig Bounty as part of AquaTerra Boat Tours.

To be the first in Ireland EVER to receive this award for a marine tourism boat, it reflects the standards we hold through environmental awareness, safety, and the way we operate our tourism business along the Skellig Coast and within PÔirc NÔisiúnta na Mara, Ciarraí.

Sustainability has always been at the heart of AquaTerra, from our custom vessel design with Redbay Boats
and our wildlife-first approach to how we guide and educate guests while exploring this remarkable coastline.

We are absolutely delighted to be recognised alongside beaches and marinas internationally, and we hope this achievement continues to highlight the importance of protecting our coastal environment while delivering high-quality marine experiences from Valentia Island.

Caught this little puffin with his rockstar hair mid pose on Skellig Michael looking like he’s ready to headline a gig on the Atlantic edge.

Between the colourful beak, the attitude, and that windswept ā€œhairā€, puffins really do steal the show every summer around the Skelligs.

Fun fact: Puffins might look cute and clumsy on land, but underwater they’re incredible divers. They use their wings to ā€œflyā€ beneath the sea and can dive up to 60 metres deep while hunting for small fish like sand eels.

Even more impressive… they can hold several fish in their beaks at once thanks to a special hinge in their mouth. šŸŽ£

🐬 The Skellig Coast always has something up its sleeve… and the wildlife loves to steal the show 🐳

One minute you’re cruising along thinking ā€œthis is amazingā€ā€¦ next thing puffins are zipping past like little rockets or gannets are diving headfirst into the Atlantic…

And just when you think it can’t get better, a whale surfaces or a basking shark glides by like something out of another world.
It’s wild, it’s uplifting, and it never puts on the same show twice.

Big smiles, salty air, and moments you didn’t see coming. That’s what it’s all about.

Come out with and see what’s waiting for you this summer.

There’s a different pace to Valentia Island and the Skellig Coast.

Once you leave the shore, everything begins to open out, the water, the air, the sense of space around you.

It’s not about ticking off places... it’s about being out there, where the Skelligs sit on the horizon and the coastline reveals itself slowly, without trying too hard.

Wildlife moves through it all, sometimes close, sometimes just a glimpse, always on its own terms.

If that’s what you’ve been missing, you’ll find it out here.

Join along the Skellig Coast this season.

Ever been to the very edge of Europe… and come face to face with a lighthouse standing alone in the wild Atlantic?

Departing from Knightstown Marina on Valentia Island, this 3-hour offshore experience sets out on 2nd and 3rd May at 2pm, heading west towards the Blasket Islands and onward to Inishtearaght Lighthouse, Ireland’s most westerly point.

The Blasket Islands bring a completely different energy, rich in history, full of life, with seabirds overhead and seals often close by.

A little further, Inishtearaght appears, remote, powerful, and impossible to ignore.

Along the South Kerry coastline, old castles and manor ruins sit quietly at the water’s edge, often unseen by those passing on land.

From the sea, they reveal themselves differently. Closer, more striking, and filled with a sense of history that’s hard to put into words now surrounded by wildlife.

It’s one of the many details that makes exploring this coastline by water feel that little bit more special that most people never see when driving on the Ring.

Departing from Knightstown, brings you along the coastline where these ruins appear as part of the journey, not planned, just found.

So start exploring and book your adventure today at www.kerryaquaterra.ie
