Sailing one is on most people's bucket list , but most people never get the chance.

This is a private experience. Two to eight guests. A traditional skipper. A working ho**er built the same way they were built in the 1800s. We sail across Galway Bay, past the Aran Islands on the horizon, with the Connemara mountains rising behind you.

There is no engine noise. Just the wind, the water, and a story or two from the skipper if you want them.

June is one of the best months to visit Ireland.
Long evenings, wildflowers on the Burren, the Aran Islands at their greenest. But the Atlantic doesn't check the calendar, and plenty of first-timers land underprepared.

Some places sell themselves. Kerry is one of them.

10,000 hectares of Killarney National Park. The McGillycuddy's Reeks - Ireland's highest mountain range. Torc Waterfall thundering 20 metres into a forest of oak and yew. The Ring of Kerry coiling through Sneem and Waterville and Kenmare.

A quiet weekend confession: half the reason people come back to Connemara is the food.

Three islands sit four miles off the coast of Galway. They have been inhabited for 4,000 years. The wind has not let up once.

On Inishmore stands Dún Aonghasa, a stone fort balanced on the edge of a 100-metre cliff above the Atlantic. Bronze Age. Older than the Roman Empire. Nobody knows for certain who built it, or why.

Irish is still the daily language here. The fields are divided by hand-built stone walls, there are 1,500 miles of them on Inishmore alone. The pace is slower. The light is softer. The tea is stronger.
