🌅 Early mornings with NPWS – Black Guillemot Survey

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been working alongside the National Parks & Wildlife Service supporting their Black Guillemot (Cepphus grylle) coastal survey along the Donegal coastline.

With early starts from 6:00am to 9:00am, it’s meant being on site for 6:00am sharp—so plenty of very early departures to make sure we were in position on time.

With the ever-changing conditions on the north coast, finding the right weather window each morning was key to operating safely.

We’ve been operating with both boats:
🚤 Laura Dean – 11.5m catamaran
🚤 Mevagh 1 – 9.5m RIB

Running multiple survey areas and helping NPWS teams access remote sections of coastline and islands.

From calm sunrise runs to more exposed coastal sections, it’s been a great mix of conditions and proper early morning work on the water.

It’s been a fantastic run—great conditions when it counted, plenty of bird activity, and always rewarding to be involved in important conservation work.

Fair play to the team for the work they’re doing to monitor and protect these coastal species 👏
