Important Travel ID Update – Aer Lingus

From 25 February 2026, Aer Lingus will no longer accept photo ID (such as driving licences) on flights between Ireland and Britain.

Passengers must travel with:

A valid passport, or

An Irish Passport Card

This applies to adults and children under 16.

Nationals of other countries must hold a valid passport and any required visa, and may also need a UK ETA.

We strongly recommend checking your travel documents well in advance of departure.

🇪🇺 From 12 October 2025, the EU is starting to roll out the new Entry/Exit System (EES). This means changes if you’re travelling to most European countries 🇪🇺
👉 What you need to know:
🖐 On your first trip, you’ll need to give fingerprints + have a photo taken at the border.
📖 No more passport stamps.
⏳ Checks may take longer at airports/ports.
✅ Your EES record lasts for 3 years.
⏱ You can still only stay 90 days in every 180.
⚠️ Applies across the Schengen area (France, Spain, Italy, Greece + many more).
❌ Not needed for Ireland 🇮🇪 or Cyprus 🇨🇾.
