This gate opens into 900 years of history πŸ—οΈβœ¨

What you're looking at is the view from inside the Chapter House at Old Mellifont Abbey , looking out through a breathtaking medieval archway towards the ancient Cloister beyond.

Step through the gate and discover the stories hidden in every stone. Founded in 1142 by Saint Malachy, Mellifont was Ireland's very first Cistercian monastery.

The grounds are open to visit year-round, with guided tours and the OPW Visitor Centre open during the summer season.
