Céilí Carlingford has made the list of best 100 shops in Ireland, published by the Irish Independent.

In just three short months, its become renowned in the town for its fantastic coffee, patisserie and as an events space for arts classes. The Indo feature pointed out that so many Irish producers feature on the menu, with the coffee from Koffy in Jonesborough, to the delicious apple cruffins from Gullion Bakery.

Tucked away in a leafy woodland setting on the Cooley Peninsula, you'll find Carlingford Brewing Company

Carlingford Brewing Company is a small, independent craft brewery with big stories to tell. Enjoy one of their guided tours, where you'll learn about the legend of Donn Cúailnge (the Brown Bull of Cooley) and discover the Carlingford landmarks that inspired their beers.

Stay on for wood-fired pizza, craft beer straight from the source and maybe a cocktail or two on the heated terrace, blankets included. Live DJ sets light up the terrace on summer Saturdays. Louth, Lú in Irish, takes its name from Lugh, the Celtic god of light, master of every art and skill, whose harvest festival of Lughnasa still gives the month of August its Irish name.

For four nights, from 23 to 26 October Lú Festival of Light, Drogheda will transform Drogheda, one of Ireland’s oldest towns, into an open-air gallery. As darkness falls, large-scale projection installations sweep across the town’s most dramatic heritage buildings, bringing to life the ancient gods, goddesses, mystical creatures and mortal heroes of Irish legend. The 2026 festival promises new stories, new legends and brand-new animations across the town. Watch this space for full programme - coming soon.👀

Spotlight on Annagassan 🌊

Did you know that Annagassan was once home to one of the first major Viking settlements in Ireland? In the 9th century, Vikings took over the Irish fort of Linns, transforming it into a bustling winter base. In 2011, carbon testing revealed trenches at the site, confirming it as one of only two Viking winter bases ever discovered in Ireland. The other? It became the city of Dublin!

Today, Annagassan is a quiet seaside village with a quaint harbour where the River Glyde meets the sea. It's beach boasts stunning views across Dundalk Bay to the Cooley Peninsula, and further along the Strand Road you will find Salterstown Pier, flanked by a rocky beach.
