🌊 Calling all Transition Year students!

Interested in marine science, innovation, technology, or future careers connected to Ireland’s ocean? Expressions of Interest are now open for the Marine Institute Transition Year Programme 2027.

📅 Programme dates: 22nd- 26th February 2027
📍 Location: Marine Institute Headquarters, Rinville, Oranmore, Co. Galway
⏰ EOI deadline: 11 September 2026 at 5:00pm
📝 Apply: Complete the Expression of Interest form using the link in this post.

✅ Applicants must be at least 16 years old by the 22nd of February 2027
✅ Students must be available to attend the full five-day programme

Places are limited and submitting an Expression of Interest does not guarantee a place. Students who submit an EOI will be contacted in October 2026 with details of the formal application stage.

Another fantastic day on the water with Paul and his crew.
A wet start heading across the bay towards Clareisland, but that all changed as we headed west.
A nice few fish came over the gunwale including Mackerel, Poutting, Red Gurnard, Cuckoo Wrasse and of course the ever famous Timmy Dooley Po***ck.

A stop off on Clareisland for refreshments before heading back home to end the day.

A great day on the water today with Alex and his stag crew.
We hit for Clareisland this morning where we boated Mackerel, Poutting, ling, Gurnard, Whitting, Cuckoo Wrasse, and the famous Timmy Dooley Po***ck.
Back in the bay to go on anchor for dogfish and thornback ray.

A warm day on the water today with Padraig and his crew.
Slow but steady, and a few different species came over the gunwale including Mackerel, Poutting, Cuckoo Wrasse, Poor cod, Whitting, Red gurnard, Grey gurnard, Scad, Tub gurnard, Red seabream, and the famous Timmy Dooley Po***ck

Plenty fish out there today, including Mackerel, Poutting, Cuckoo Wrasse, Ballan Wrasse, poor cod, ling, Octopus, and the famous Timmy Dooley Po***ck.

Thanks to Gary Moogan and his buddies for their company on board Mo Chara today.
A good variety of fish over the gunwale, including Mackerel, Poutting, Cuckoo Wrasse, dogfish, Thornback ray, Whitting, Scad, ling, Red gurnard, Ballan Wrasse, poor cod, and the ever famous Timmy Dooley Po***ck.
Not every day you get to see a humpback whale, so that made the day even better.
