Hawthorn Cottage

Hawthorn Cottage Hawthorn Cottage is a traditional thatched holiday cottage in the heart of Ireland Great care has been taken to keep the character of the cottage. dish washer.

Step back in time with this beautiful sympathetically restored Traditional Thatch Cottage, dates back to 16th/17th Century making the central rooms as much as 400 years old! The thick stone and mud walls are wonderfully uneven with little nooks and crannys for books and lanterns. Two lower than average doors (leading off the oldest room in the house) still hang on their original hinges. The sash w

indows with their deep window cills, flagstone floors, the old hobs by the fire with rare wattle and daub hood, together with the original oak beams, complete the picture. The cottage is set in totally private grounds, at the end of a private country lane about 3 miles outside the small market town of Mountrath. This cottage really has the WOW factor. The accommodation offers, 2 double bedrooms, 1 with original oak beams, 1 twin bedroom, bathroom with shower head attachment to bath, character living room with original oak beams and original fireplace, kitchen/diner with all mod cons ie. electric ovens/gas hobs, microwave & fridge/freezer. Utility room with washing machine. Under floor heating through out. The cottage also offers free Wifi. Lovely rural location, nearest town with mini supermarkets, butcher, shops, take aways, postoffice = 3 miles. County town with bars, restaurants, supermarkets, shops, banks = 7 miles. Nearest motorway junction 7 miles. Nearest railway station 7 miles. Although the cottage location is rural and private it is not isolated. It's in the heart of a traditional farming community with the family farm just a few minutes walk away. Just 15min drive from the lovely Slieve Bloom mountains with popular outdoor activities: walking, horse riding, fishing & golf. Or just take a picnic and relax by a mountain stream. About 1 hours drive from Dublin airport. Unfortunately not suitable for young children due to large pond and old stone well in grounds. The cottage has been built on a southfacing slope which means there are some steps both inside and out which may present a challange for people with limited mobility.

What a fabulous start to the Bank Holiday weekend! Wonderful walk up the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Taking in views from Glenbarrow Waterfall, The Ridge of Cappard and Stoney Man. Couldn't resist bringing bringing back a little bit of the mountain to the cottage.πŸ’•
