A full house gathered at Finns Folk Club last Sunday night to enjoy folk duo Ger O’Donnell and Trevor Sexton. Their distinctive voices blended effortlessly, delivering an outstanding performance to a warm and appreciative audience.

A standout moment came with a creative reimagining of Spancil Hill, transformed into a reggae-tinged classic and cleverly woven with Walking on the Moon by The Police for extra flavour. Another highlight of the evening was their evocative take on The Coast of Malabar, while a surprise rendition of Man in the Mirror by Michael Jackson showcased the depth of musical apprenticeship and versatility the lads have clearly served.

A rousing mix of music, humour, and easy banter carried the night along, making the close arrive far too soon. Thanks once again to Joe for hosting yet another memorable evening of music and entertainment in this wonderful venue.

Another great night at Finns Folk Club..with Colm Gavin and Kenan Flannery

Last Sunday night in Finns Folk Club Bandroom Lane Sessions 2 of Dublins and Irelands premier singer/songwriter acts made a welcome return. On paper the two artists are worlds apart, Colm Gavin, evoking memories of some of American artists such as Billy Joel, Dean Friedman and Jim Croce along with a smattering of Englands Cat Stevens and Kenan Flannery who writes about life, love and loss in the style of John Prine, Arlo and Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger. but forget about what shouldn’t as their passion and powerful songwriting combined with two very different but equally beautiful singing styles delivered a night of unforgettable entertainment to an audience that appreciated their long trek from Dublin last Sunday night. If you are lucky enough to have either playing near you, together or on their own a great night of songs, stories and craic is guaranteed. A big thanks has to go to Joe for providing such a great intimate venue and for the great music and his support of all the great artists who have graced the stage of Finns Folk Club Bandroom Lane Sessions. All these artists deserve support at these gigs, buy their music, attend their gigs, support these artists and the venues they play in because without it “When they’re gone.. They’re gone “

Last Saturday night, Finns Folk Club was graced with the enchanting presence of Without Willow, the Donegal-based singer-songwriter duo made up of Karen Kelly and Simon McCafferty. The pair delivered a captivating set that left the room spellbound from the first note to the last.

Karen’s beautifully haunting vocal style was the emotional heart of the performance, her voice carrying both fragility and strength in equal measure. Simon’s intricate guitar work and warm, harmonising vocals provided the perfect counterpoint—never overpowering, always complementing. Together, their sound was intimate, raw, and deeply moving.

The evening featured a strong selection from their own original catalogue, showcasing their ability to craft songs that feel both timeless and deeply personal. Each number was delivered with a quiet confidence and emotional clarity that held the audience in rapt attention.

Among the highlights was a stunning rendition of Dolly Parton’s “Coat of Many Colours”, which they made entirely their own while staying true to the spirit of the original. Stripped back and heartfelt, it stood as a poignant tribute to the storytelling roots of folk music.

Without Willow brought not only talent but a sense of soul and sincerity that’s rare and refreshing. Their performance was a reminder of how powerful live music can be in its simplest, most authentic form. A truly memorable evening.
