FIRST LOOK:
McDonald’s has arrived in New Ross, completing a €3m investment that brings close to 100 jobs to the town. We got a first look at the newly finished development ahead of its opening next Wednesday (18th Feb). The purpose-built Portersland site features a 400 sqm drive-thru restaurant, 50 car parking spaces, bicycle parking, electric vehicle chargers and an outdoor seating area.

Business Manager Nadia Jean leads the new restaurant, having worked at the Wexford town location since it opened in 2009. A Global Ray Kroc Award winner (an honour reserved for the top 1% of Restaurant Managers worldwide) Nadia has been recognised for leading by example, delivering strong operational standards and driving high-performing teams. Speaking ahead of next week’s launch, she said: “We are really excited to open in New Ross and welcome our new customers. We’re committed to Irish suppliers, who play a central role in delivering the quality behind McDonald’s most iconic menu items.”

Operations Manager Manuel Jean added: “Opening in New Ross is about more than a new restaurant, it’s about becoming part of this community. We’re proud to create local jobs, support Irish suppliers, and provide a welcoming space for families, friends and neighbours to come together. We’re looking forward to building strong connections in the town from day one.”

Customers can order both in-restaurant and via the drive-thru. As with all McDonald’s locations across Ireland, the beef, bacon, milk, water and eggs served at the New Ross restaurant are 100% Irish.

The restaurant will trade from 6am to midnight, seven days a week.

Four years in, and still pushing it on.
What started as an idea beside the Hillside Bar has turned into one of New Ross’ best success stories. 10 Nine Burger Food Truck was set up by Aaron Doyle taking familiar takeaway favourites and really add to them....bigger and better flavours.....

Since then, it’s been queues in the cold and plenty of 'sold-out' summer nights, Aaron and the team, won Burger of the Year win at the 2025 YesChef Awards. The menu’s evolved, the equipment been constantly upgraded, and now desserts are getting the same treatment from Reese’s and Nutella brownies to full-on Lotus Biscoff overload.....reinvesting, backing yourselves and most importantly keeping things interesting for the people who’ve backed you from day one.

Well done on four years in business Aaron! 🙌

The Shambles has been carefully restored using local skill, craftsmanship and respect for what was already there.....this project will help breath new life into one of the towns most historic corners.....The old stonework complemented by fresh finishes has made this space now feel genuinely welcoming.

Beyond how it looks, the Shambles now includes public toilets in the town centre (something locals, visitors, families and older residents will definitely put to good use)
..and it’s not just a static space either. With its covered structure and central location, it now opens the door for small markets, makers, pop-ups and community gatherings....These activities will bring life back into the centre.

We know many will carry memories from here too... and with it now becoming part of the next chapter of how the town works it feels like a practical win all round....An incredibly respectful restoration and a space now with real potential to impact the town.

A New Ross dog groomer is setting the standard after picking up a major national award. Jade Dunphy of Wipe Your Paws Dog Grooming has been scooping up accolades, most recently being named Best Individual Groomer at the Irish Professional Groomers Association Grooming Competition.

Jade launched the business just three years ago in The Woodbine, and the recognition reflects both her skill and the strong support she’s built locally.

Speaking after the win, Jade said:
“From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to each and every one of you who voted for us. Your support and loyalty are what drive us.”

Well deserved. Great work, Jade 👏

A New Year’s Day tradition dating back to 1687 continued this afternoon at Hook Lighthouse. From the rocks beneath the world’s oldest operational lighthouse, archers released arrows into the sea, continuing a ceremony first recorded on New Year’s Day more than three centuries ago.
