Create Your Own Hare’s Corner – 2025 Applications Now Open!

If you attended our Inspiring Sustainable Tourism conference, you’ll remember the incredible Brendan Dunford from Burrenbeo Trust sharing the magic of the Hare’s Corner, a fantastic initiative helping landowners make more space for nature by creating a mini-woodland, wildlife hedge, mini-orchard, wildlife pond, or a ‘plan for nature’.

Well in great news news, applications for 2025 are open from 6 March - 20 March 2025.

🔎 To be eligible you must:
- Be in an eligible county for 2025: Sligo, Galway, Limerick, Meath, Offaly and Carlow.
- Own the land or have permission to carry out works on the said land (eg if you are applying on behalf of a school or community group).
- Know that The Hare's Corner does not pay landowners to carry out works, but provides material support (trees), guidance and in the case of ponds, micro-funding towards machinery costs.
- Know that if the project is oversubscribed, priority will be given to Burrenbeo Members.
* There are a few more conditions which you can read about on burrenbeo.com

💡 This is an incredible opportunity to give back to nature, enhance biodiversity, and create a lasting legacy on your land.
📢 Find out more or support the initiative at: burrenbeo.com

We were thrilled to sponsor 2 categories at the Outsider Magazine People of the Year Awards recently. The values behind these awards align closely with our own: tourism & leisure experiences that connect people with nature, & lead them to protecting biodiversity & the environment, & that are inclusive & bring good to their communities.

Our categories were Eco-Hero (Professionals & Companies) & Most Devoted To the Outdoor Scene.

The Eco-Hero (Prof/Companies) category went to joint winners - Sea Synergy & Matt McConway.

Sea Synergy is a marine awareness, research & activity centre that offers meaningful activities, workshops & adventures that empower all ages, from snorkelling to rock-pooling. And we are thrilled to say that Sea Synergy are members of the STN too!

Matt McConway is the Path Manager for the Sustainable Access and Habitat Restoration Project on Croagh Patrick. He has led a team to create a 4km stone pathway from the mountain's base to summit.

The Most Devoted To the Outdoor Scene award went to the wonderful open-water swimmer Corinna Nolan who is known for both her swimming feats, but also the time she gives to her community.

Another category we loved was the Eco Hero Award (Volunteer) sponsored by Craghoppers. The joint winners were Flossie Donnelly from Flossie and The Beach Cleaners & Sean Roynane.

And the Diversity/ Inclusion Award, sponsored by title sponsor Sport Ireland went to Safe Haven Ireland. This organisation offers sailing opportunities to children/young people from ethnic minority backgrounds, prioritising those who have experienced the asylum system in Ireland, and Irish-nationals from inner city areas, who would not otherwise have this kind of opportunity.

Best Outdoor Escape/Provider went to another STN member Ireland Walk Hike Bike.

We also loved the two panel discussions. One was on the Guidelines for Organising Outdoor Activity Events which looked at how to reduce the negative effects of outdoor recreation on biodiversity and precious landscapes.

And it was super to be sponsoring alongside our eninmental ally Leave No Trace Ireland too.

A great night all round with super inspiration and energy from amazing individuals and groups that work incredibly hard to make Ireland a better place to live, work and play!
