Golden Jubilee Celebrations

From little acorns great oaks grow! All the more special because the 13 girls were divided between four year groups!

When thirteen students (all girls) began their secondary education in the convent across the road from the present school in 1961, little did they think that 50 years later we would be celebrating our Golden Jubilee as a school of 500 plus, meeting the needs of the entire community in Rush. As a school that moves with the times, and recognising the need to provide an education for the boys of Rush

, St Joseph’s became a co-educational school in 1981. It is a privilege to be principal of the school during the Golden Jubilee following the footsteps of Tom Loughnane, Sr Caitriona O’Hara(1983), Sr Kathleen O’Keefe(1975), Ms Teresita Durkan (1972), And Sr Patricia Finucane(1961). They have all left their mark on the character of the school leading committed and dedicated staff. A feature of St Joseph’s has been the close contact between past pupils of the school and the local community. My thanks in advance to those members of the Golden Jubilee Committee for their work in celebrating the life of the school and showcasing the school today.

2011 is a very special year for the St Joseph’s Community and our celebrations begin with the visit of President Mary McAleese on 28 January 2011. We are honoured that the President has found time in her busy schedule to launch our celebrations. In September we will hold a special Mercy Day Mass to mark the beginning of the academic year. Past pupils will be welcome to attend this very important day in tWe have planned many other events including:
· An Open Evening when past pupils can meet up with old friends, teachers and Sisters of Mercy
· A book celebrating ’50 Years of Golden Memories’
· Quiz
· Golf Classic
· Trad Session and Ceile
· Pamper Night
· Sculpture
· Christmas Carols

As you can see from the above, we want to provide past pupils with as many opportunities to visit the school and reminisce with old friends and colleagues. The Parents Association (many of whom are past pupils) is keen to set up an exhibition of memorabilia. Please drop anything of interest into the office with your name and contact details so that the items can be returned to you after the exhibition. Week one done 💪🏼 Well done to our 6th Years who have completed English Papers 1 and 2, Home Economics, Geography and Maths Paper 1, to our LCA students who have completed English & Communication, Social Education, Spanish, Mathematical Applications and Hotel, Catering & Tourism, and to our 3rd Years who have now completed English, Irish, Maths, History, Geography and Religion! You’ve been great! Don’t forget to plan out your schedule for the coming week, double checking times! We’ll see you in the morning - fresh fruit, snacks and water are available before each exam at the canteen, so help yourself 🍓🍓🍓 Wishing everyone the best of luck for this week - the end is in sight!

Wishing all of our 3rd and 6th Year students the very best of luck over the coming days and weeks as they begin their Junior Cycle, Leaving Certificate and Leaving Certificate Applied Examinations tomorrow. You’ve put the work in, now it’s time to show it off, giving each exam your best effort - that’s all that anyone asks! Many thanks to the staff, as well as your parents and guardians, who have supported you throughout this journey! Please check the timetables carefully! Good luck to all and we’ll see you in the morning in full school uniform, with all your necessary stationery 📝✍🏼 You’ve got this 💪🏼

Rathbawn Schoolwear is the new provider of our School Tracksuit and new School Jacket. They are sponsoring 4 spot prizes (two full school tracksuits and two new school jackets) for all those signed up to our school lotto on June 4th, when the draw takes place! See the top right of our website for details on how to sign up and how the proceeds go to financing our Catherine McAuley Fund and on student facilities, supports and wellbeing! The lotto is overseen by the Parents Association who have great plans to make improvements to the school over the summer, so your support of our lotto is most appreciated. The newly designed school jacket was chosen through consultation with students who are very happy with it! Definitely the wrong day for them to try it on ☀️ but a number of our 2nd, 4th and 5th Years can be seen wearing it for your reference and samples of all sizes are available to try on in the School Office! All students must wear one of the three approved school jackets - the new one included in this post, the Bodibro one (no new ones can be purchased from Bodibro) or the jacket available in Philanns in Skerries! The Board of Management of St Joseph’s congratulates Ms Una Fallon on her retirement! Ms Fallon has worked as a Home Economics teacher in St Joseph’s for the last 3️⃣4️⃣ years! She taught her last class on Thursday morning before being brought around the school with students and staff cheering and clapping for her, marking her years of service 👏🏼 It was lovely to welcome back friends who have also retired to join the staff for a celebratory lunch in honour of Ms Fallon 🎊 We wish her well as she begins this new chapter in her life! Thank you Ms Fallon 🧁

Smiles all round with all 1st to 6th Years being treated to an ice cream over the past few days, marking the end of classes for the academic year 2025-2026! It’s been a great year for St Joseph’s because of the fantastic students we are lucky to have in our school 🍦🍦🍦

Salamanca 2026 🇪🇸 61 of our 2nd Year Spanish students recently returned form a week long, cultural and language immersive visit to Salamanca in Spain! Flying into Madrid ✈️, the group stopped off in Las Rozas before arriving in the beautiful city of Salamanca. In addition to attending Spanish language classes in an academy every day 🏫, the students took part in a walking tour of the city 🗺️, visited the cathedral ⛪️, got to try typical Spanish dishes such as churros con chocolate ☕️ and a variety of tapas , took part in Sevillanas and Bachata dance workshops 💃🏻 and learned how to make the famous Tortilla de Patatas (Spanish Omelette) 🥚🥔🧅! They spent a full day in Madrid where they visited the Royal Palace 🏰 and the famous Santiago-Bernabéu Stadium 🏟️, home of Real Madrid ⚽️ which was a real highlight for many! They also visited the World Heritage City of Segovia 🚌! The purpose of the trip is to showcase to students why they are learning Spanish and to highlight to them the many advantages of learning a language - that Spanish is a living tool that exits beyond the classroom walls, a language that is rich in culture! The group were absolutely fantastic and really embraced all aspects of the visit and we hope it has further motivated them in their language learning journey 🇪🇸 ¡Bien hecho a todos! 🇪🇸

Awards Season🎖️Last week, students in all year groups were recognised for their hard work and effort over the course of this year! Achievement Awards, Attendance Awards, Bí Cineálta Kindness Awards, Rising Star Awards and Academic Excellence Awards were presented to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th Year students at a special Awards Ceremony 🥇 At our TY Graduation, students were recognised in the areas of Volunteerism, Mentoring, Positivity, Creativity, Leadership, Team Player, Personal Growth and Development, Attitudinal, Trinity College Salter Sterling Award, Spirit of TY and the TY Student of the Year 🏆 Huge congratulations to all recipients in all year groups ⭐️ We’re very proud of you all 💫

Not one, but two new additions to our Sports Stars Wall of Fame 👕 Congratulations to 5th Year student, Eilíse and 6th Year student, Mobarak on their achievements to date with the Dublin Minor Football teams and we wish them both continued success on this journey! Their jerseys will be added to our wall over the summer as a celebration of their talent, where they will take pride of place! A fantastic achievement, as well as for St. Maurs. GAA

A first for St Joseph’s - best of luck to our TY students who are jetting off to Canada tomorrow morning on a 4 week exchange! Having hosted earlier in the year, they will be living with their exchange students and their families and attending school for the next few weeks in Ottawa! In addition to Canada, this year we have hosted students from France, Germany and Spain, with our TYs getting to travel to Madrid🇪🇸, Angers 🇫🇷 and Dortmund 🇩🇪 for a month! Exchanges really push students out of their comfort zone, developing their confidence which leads to personal growth! We have no doubt that our TYs are going to have an amazing cultural experience in Canada ✈️🇨🇦🌎🗺️ Enjoy every minute!
