Next up in our Courses of Ireland series: Portmarnock Golf Club.

Set on a peninsula surrounded by the Irish Sea, Portmarnock has been testing golfers since 1894 and has hosted some of the biggest events in the game, including the Walker Cup and Irish Open.

One of its defining features is the routing: no two consecutive holes play in the same direction, making the wind a factor throughout the round.

The 15th is the signature hole, a long par three beside the beach, with a narrow green and plenty of trouble if you miss either side.

Arnold Palmer considered it the finest par three in the world.

A few moments from the Donegal leg of a recent West & Northwest Ireland golf trip. ⛳️

The group travelled over from the US, beginning their journey in County Sligo before making their way north to Donegal, with our team alongside them throughout the trip.

The Donegal leg took in rounds at Donegal Golf Club, Portsalon Golf Club and Narin & Portnoo Links, with some exceptional golf, spectacular scenery and plenty of time to enjoy the best of Donegal off the course too.

Great golf, good company and a few well-earned pints to round things off.

What makes a golf trip?

We asked Gary Murphy for his thoughts.

We’re delighted to welcome Gary as our new brand ambassador. An Irish golf legend and former European Tour professional, he brings nearly 40 years of experience in the game.

In his first piece for us, Gary reflects on the friendly competition, mix of personalities and sense of escape that come with travelling to play golf. He also considers what Ireland brings to the experience, from the variety of its courses to the welcome at local clubs.

From 28 August to 4 September 2027, you can join Gary on our hosted Signature Departure through the northwest of Ireland.

First up in our Courses of Ireland series: Royal County Down.

Set beneath the Mountains of Mourne in Newcastle, the course runs through heather and dunes beside Dundrum Bay.

One of its standout moments comes at the par-four 9th. The drive is blind, but once you reach the top of the ridge, the fairway and coastline open up below.

With caddies required, local knowledge is a big part of the experience, particularly around the blind shots, deep bunkers and changing angles.
